The Assistant/Associate Director will join a dynamic office that facilitates initiatives that seek to affirm and support the six dimensions of student health and well-being. This position will foster an environment in which all students have opportunities to enhance their healthy habits, make positive change in their own lives, and positively impact the Villanova community.
The Assistant/Associate Director will work closely with the Director of Health Promotion in achieving office mission and goals. The Assistant/Associate Director will support programming and initiatives across all student populations, in collaboration with campus and community partners, and will develop and implement training opportunities focusing on health and well-being for students, student leaders (e.g., Resident Assistants, Orientation Staff Members), and for student organizations as part of overarching student leadership development. The Assistant/Associate Director will also coordinate new and existing initiatives and programs sponsored by the Office of Health Promotion.
The primary responsibilities of the Assistant/Associate Director are to oversee all campus-wide social marketing and programming efforts for the office, including the supervision of the Community Well-Being Specialist (at the Associate Director designation only) and a student internship team. The secondary responsibilties of the position are to serve as a facilitator for all office trainings and workshops; and to serve as the primary Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS) provider and tobacco cessation specialist for voluntary referrals. The Assistant/Associate Director may also serve as a member of the Sexual Assault Resource Coordinator (SARC) team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise, coordinate and assess all campus-wide social marketing and event planning initiatives, including supervision of the Community Well-Being Specialist (at the Associate Director designation only) and credit-bearing student internship team. Routine events include Healthy Nova Month / Suicide Prevention Awareness Month (September), Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October), Healthy Relationships Month (February), National Nutrition Month (March), and Sexual Assault Awareness Month (April).
- Serve as a facilitator for all office workshops and trainings for students, student leaders, and student organizations; including Bystander Intervention and One Love Escalation trainings.
- Chair/Co-Chair or serve on division-wide planning committees, which includes scheduling and leading meetings, creating a shared agenda, developing and assessing collaborative initiatives. Committees include, but are not limited to, Student Life Mental Health and Wellness Committee and Healthy Nova Month planning committee.
- Review, revise and update office handouts and resources; Thrive 365 online portal and other office technologies that support student health and well-being.
- Provide individual and group BASICS and tobacco cessation services, in addition to other support responsibilities, on an as-needed basis.
- Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Formal Education
- Master’s Degree required in health promotion, public health, nursing, or related field
Work Experience
- Minimum of 4 years experience in a health promotion program whereby competence in prevention and health and well-being promotion was demonstrated. Minimum of 2 years experience working within a peer education program on a college campus.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience and demonstrated professional skills, supervisory experience, and competencies in a higher education setting to be considered for the Associate Director level

- Ability to work collaboratively and to build consensus in working with others towards a common goal
- Excellent public speaking skills to facilitate effective prevention within the University community
- Excellent written communication skills and active listening skills
- Ability to work with college students and other professional staff to facilitate the devleopment of population-level prevention and health and well-being initiatives
- Ability to critically review health-related professional literature relevant to college students and assess its applicability and utility for effectiveness on campus
- Excellent needs assessment and program evaluation skills
- Excellent supervisory skills demonstrated in providing effective feedback and improving performance outcomes
Specific Job Knowledge
- Maintains currency of prevention, intervention techniques and strategies through attendance at conferences, trainings and seminars
- In-depth knowledge of major health issues facing college students, most notably alcohol misuse and sexual violence prevention
- Understanding of leadership skills and the principles of student development
- Working knowledge of evidence-based and theory-based strategies and methods to improve the health and well-being of individual students and the campus community
- Working knowledge of needs assessment and program evaluation
- Appreciation for the mission and values of Catholic higher education and for Villanova University as a Catholic and Augustinian institution
Equipment Knowledge
- Demonstrated competency in computer skills; knowledge of Windows environment is desirable
- Knowledge of Zoom environment to host safe, inclusive and appropriate learning environments for sensitive topics, such as sexual violence prevention programming
- Willingness to learn when new tools become available
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Health Educator Specialist (CHES) eligibility or certification preferred. Motivational interviewing training and/or certification preferred. American Lung Association tobacco cessation training preferred.
- Knowledge of social media management systems (e.g., Buffer) and marketing design systems (e.g., Canva) preferred
- Knowledge of Maxient system preferred
