Job Description:
• Perform routine and scheduled maintenance and repairs for equipment from minor tune-ups to complete engine overhauls on a wide range of:
o Internal combustion and alternative fuel powered construction equipment (i.e. transportation vehicles, etc.)
o Automotive Equipment (i.e. forklifts, tire changers, wheel balancers, etc.)
o Weight-handling Equipment (i.e. anchor windless, winches, capstans, cranes, etc.)
o Specialized equipment (i.e. tool kits, test equipment, fiber optic tools, etc.)
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, remove, adjust, modify, repair or replace defective components including but not limited to ignition, emission, injection, suspension, brakes, and steering, electrical, engine, transmission and drivetrain systems
• Repair, overhaul and rebuild attachments and other utility systems on such equipment as bulldozers, road graders, rollers, power shovels, backhoes, stationary generators, welders and special purpose trucks and equipment (equipment normally has extensive hydraulics, pneumatic and electro-mechanical powered systems and controls not commonly found on conventional transport or over-the-road trucks)
• Disassemble diesel/gasoline engines as necessary and inspect, repair or replace internal components as necessary
• Inspect, replace or repair tracks, drives, rollers, sprockets, hoisting units and other working attachments on all equipment including but not limited to cranes, bulldozers and tractors
• Perform machining operations such as re-boring cylinders and bearings, turning pistons, grinding crankshafts in place, turning brake drums and minor welding and brazing
• Submit orders for repair parts, inventory replacements, and shop material through the NCTC N5/N6 to NCTC N4 Office for ordering and replenishment
• Inventory all ordered parts with an acceptable accuracy rate of 98%

Requirements:
Special Requirements: Shall have the ability to receive and retain training and certification:
• Minimum six (6) years' experience as a heavy equipment diesel mechanic with a minimum of 4 years equipment experience
• Crane Mechanic and Mobile Crane Mechanic training are preferred
• Safety training
• Possess a valid Mississippi Class "C" driver's license
• Qualify, possess and retain a Government Motor Vehicle Operator Identification Card (OF 346) and Construction Equipment Operators License (NAVFAC 11260/2) with appropriate endorsement
General Requirements:
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic principles related to light/heavy construction vehicles and equipment
• Familiar with various techniques of troubleshooting, diagnostics, removing, repairing, adjusting and installing components in sub-systems such as engine ignition, fuel injection, emissions, timing, brakes and other repairs of similar complexity
• Possess knowledge and skills to perform repairs and overhaul of basic systems related to supercharged and turbo-charged engines, turbine engines, automatic and manual transmissions, and interrelated subsystems
• Ability to identify engine/system/component malfunctions and complete the most efficient/economical repair method(s) or modify faulty components in various systems
• Experience working with electrical mechanical systems and interrelated components such as control modules, switches, actuators, sensors, and wiring
• Possess knowledge and skills to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, sketches, shop repair orders (SROs), technical trade publications and blueprints
• Skilled in the use of hand/power tools and equipment used in the mechanical trade, including but not limited to torque wrenches, brake tools, gear pullers, compression testers, vacuum analyzers, electric circuit testers, tachometers, brake lathes, etc.
• Skilled in the use of computer diagnostic equipment and a variety of specialized test equipment and tools for emission testing and engine analysis
• Knowledge and skilled in the use of precision measuring devices such as micrometers, dial indicators, compression gauges, distortion gauges, and injection gauges
• Basic welding knowledge and skill including ability to work with various sizes and types of metal and alloys; knowledge of the proper equipment, heat ranges, rod material, welding techniques, and processes and the skill to make welds that require complete penetration and fusion of base and filler metals.
Physical Demands: Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Work requires prolonged standing, sitting, kneeling, crouching, stooping, pulling, pushing, climbing and assuming strained or awkward positions to accomplish work for long periods.
Work Environment: Work is performed in a shop environment under and around light and heavy equipment. Work is frequently performed in an outdoor environment with exposure to environmental and weather conditions. The working environment has the potential to expose Contractor personnel to minor cuts, abrasions, bumps, skin irritations, bruises, electric shock, and sprains while repairing/inspecting equipment.
