Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept
The Center for Student Health & Counseling (SHAC) is a nationally accredited (AAAHC) healthcare facility that offers medical, counseling, dental, and health promotion and education services to eligible students of Portland State University. SHAC Health Services enhances the overall health, safety, and wellbeing of Portland State University Students by providing same-day, primary, and preventative health care. Health Services provides health education, screenings, immunizations, laboratory & x-ray, and specialized care.
Position Summary
SHAC is seeking one full time provider position to be filled by either an NP/PA (see posting D93831), or a MD/DO (see posting D96100) and additionally a part-time MD/DO or NP/PA (see posting D98736).
Primary responsibilities include providing direct medical care to patients. In addition, there are minimal, shared, after-hours duties to cover the on-call phone and other urgent provider tasks. These duties are paid apart from the provider compensation.
We are seeking a provider who is experienced with trauma-informed care and working with patients of diverse cultural backgrounds. Preferred skills include:
- Acute & Chronic Illnesses
- IUD & Nexplanon insertion and removal
- Wound Repair
- Skin Biopsies
- Draining I & D Abscesses
- Experience with Eating Disorders
- Experience with Gender Affirming Care & Treatment
- Treatment/Counseling for STI’s
- Experience with Abortion Care
- Collaborating & Consulting with RN’s Following Nursing Standing Protocols.
- Experience with Reading X-rays
- Experience with Travel Health
- Experience with Infectious Diseases
- Experience with Sports Injuries
- Electronic Medical Record Experience
- Quality Assurance Skills

Minimum Qualifications
- M.D. or D.O. from an approved accredited school of medicine who has completed residency.
- Active, unencumbered license to practice medicine.
- Active Board Certification in: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics (experience with evaluating and treating young adults over the age of 18), Emergency Medicine (experience with evaluating and treating young adults over the age of 18).
- Current DEA License.
- Current BLS.
- Applicants from outside Oregon will be considered but will need an Oregon licensure before the agreed upon start date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Multilingual or Bilingual.
- Experience with trauma-informed care.
- Experience working with patients of diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Experience in college healthcare.
- Medical knowledge base that is current and continually updated.
- Infection Control Experience.
- Quality Improvement/ Assurance Experience.
- College Health Experience.
- Gender Affirming Care Experience-Procedure experience such as IUD/Nexplanon insertions, lacerations, abscess drainage, wound repair, medication abortions, etc.
- Reading x-rays.
- Performing CLIA waived tests: UA, rapid strep, UHCG.

Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity. The starting annual salary for this position will be $142,812 – $193,524, but may be negotiated above this rate dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
An excellent benefits package includes 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon University System schools. After completing six full months, employees are eligible to choose between our two employer paid pension programs in addition to two voluntary retirement programs.
