Medical Officer/ Physician's Assistant

The Clinical Medical Officer | Physician's Assistant will provide direct medical support to U.S. Marine Corps Forces Central Command (MARCENT) in coordination with the Force Surgeon. This position includes providing limited sick call services, clinical readiness evaluations, and ongoing advisory support for operational planning, health surveillance, and medical facility coordination. The role requires active clinical privileges at MacDill AFB, sustained continuing medical education (CME), and expertise in DoD medical readiness systems to support combatant command personnel. Performance of duties requires independent clinical practice, operational planning experience, and extensive knowledge of joint medical support systems in a forward-deployed or garrison environment. The Medical Officer \ Physician's Assistant will perform the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain clinical privileges at the 6th Medical Group Medical Clinic (MacDill AFB) and ensure credentialing compliance.
  • Oversee updates related to Global Health Engagement Policy and Operations, Activities, and Investments (OAI) in collaboration with US MARCENT G4—Plans, Operations, and Medical Intelligence (POMI) and CCSG.
  • Provide limited sick call services (4–8 hours weekly) to preserve clinical competency, at the direction of government oversight.
  • Support medical readiness through review of LIMDU, MRRS, and other tracking systems; analyze trends affecting deployability.
  • Participate in development of medical evacuation and treatment plans for exercises and contingency operations.
  • Monitor and interpret disease surveillance and medical intelligence to support force health protection.
  • Assist with medical site surveys and assessments of host nation medical capabilities and facilities.
  • Independently review and advise on the use of TRICARE and other DoD-authorized health services for MARCENT forces.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations in collaboration with DoD medical entities, including the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center and Tricare Overseas.
  • Produce documentation necessary to maintain Continuing Medical Education (CME) and licensure.
  • Directly support MARCENT's Force Surgeon.

EDUCATION

  • Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited institution, or Physician's Assistant credential with 6 years Military experience, or Nurse Practitioner with relevant experience.
  • MD or DO must be fully licensed.
  • PA must be willing to operate under the license of the Force Surgeon.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 8 years of practice in a military or federal healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of TRICARE systems, LIMDU management, MRRS, and medical readiness reporting.
  • Experience working with joint or combined military medical operations.
  • Experience and knowledge of clinical credentialing and maintaining privileges at a military treatment facility.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of disease surveillance systems, MEDEVAC procedures, and deployment health readiness.

CORE SKILLS / COMPETENCIES

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Active, unrestricted PA credential.
  • Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications (current).
  • Ability to maintain CME as required for privileging and credentialing.
  • Expertise in LIMDU and IDES processes.
  • Familiarity with directives and policies from Defense Health Agency, Headquarters Marine Corps Health Services, and BUMED.
  • 2+ years' experience at a MARFOR and/or Combatant Command-level staff.
  • Strong understanding of the interrelationships between MARCENT, CENTCOM, and HQMC staffs.
  • Knowledge of Middle Eastern geopolitical, religious, and ethnic dynamics.
  • Proficiency with DoD medical readiness systems (e.g., MRRS, AHLTA, MHS GENESIS).
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.

Desired:

  • Prior service as a military medical officer, or equivalent experience obtained by serving in roles such as Battalion Surgeon, Flight Surgeon, or Clinic Medical Director.
  • Advanced proficiency with military medical intelligence systems and TRICARE utilization.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all administrative tasks and documentation.
  • Experience with BSO 27 medical planning for operational and exercise support.
  • Prior service on USCENTCOM (Combatant Command) and MARCENT (MARFOR) level staffs.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Advanced proficiency with groupware applications (SharePoint, MS Teams) and the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Power Point, Excel, etc.).

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Required to work on-site at MacDill AFB with periodic travel to operational sites and regional medical facilities.

SPECIAL POSITION NOTATIONS

  • Travel is required.
  • Qualification as an authorized company driver is required. All authorized company drivers must have a valid driver's license, current automobile insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to the company's auto insurance provider.
