Epsilon Systems is currently seeking a full time Rigger Specialist in Mayport, FL.

 

Summary: This position includes the rigging of structures and equipment to and from shipboard locations and off-ship landing sites and/or conveyances safely without endangerment of personnel or equipment. Additionally, rigging equipment and structures between lay-down areas and industrial shop locations is required.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Able to work in manufacturing and construction industries, where heavy machinery and materials are often used. As such, they work around heavy machinery outdoors and in industrial settings and report directly to a shift lead or manager

  • Extensive knowledge of Below-the-Hook rigging gear and able to remove, place and reposition material and/or equipment throughout confined spaces and passageways through ships and building areas utilizing chain hoist and other rigging equipment.

  • Accurately able to make load routing judgements by considering size and locations of objects utilizing available overhead and surrounding structures and surface conditions.

  • Able to judge and drift objects/equipment utilizing multiple chain hoist and/or cranes to permit maneuvering loads around obstacles with proper sized rigging gear.

  • Experience in rigging of equipment but not limited to engine room work, pumps/motors, valves, electronic equipment, steel and flight deck safety net related work. Experienced in Load Testing of various pieces of equipment is also to be expected of this position.

  • Possesses the ability to accurately record readings and measurements as well as complete documentation, repair, and testing of equipment. Will assist in rigging evolutions when necessary.

  • Knowledge of safety regulations in material handling.

  • Proficiency in operating hydraulic cranes but not limited to, Link-belt, Tadano RT type cranes

  • Possess working knowledge of crane operation including but not limited to:

    1. Inspecting the crane to ensure its safety and reliability before operation.

    2. Possess working knowledge or crane operations including but not limited to

    3. operating the crane according to signals from riggers

    4. adjusting crane mechanisms for specified load handling and positioning and lifting

    5. positioning, repositioning loads using the :necessary crane controls

    6. monitoring and adjusting necessary controls to regulate crane’s speed and direction

    7. adhering to safety procedures and reporting any maintenance requirements or malfunctions

    8. performing routine maintenance such as lubricating parts, replacing wires

  • Ability to troubleshoot minor issues and communicate with workers to ensure safe movement of loads.

  • Forklift experience with extendable boom and straight mast

  • Must be able to calculate and understand units of measure

  • Must be able to wear appropriate (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment

  • Must be able to understand and perform the basic set up, alignment, and operation of various portable tools and hand tools used in the trade.

  • Has working knowledge of shipboard mechanical systems (repair/installation practices, procedures, alignments and troubleshooting).

  • Ability to use such precision measuring instruments as height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, verniers, lay-out tools, tachometers, thermometers, vibration indicators

  • Communicates effectively

  • Works independently or in a group.

  • Ability to work overtime or night shifts depending on the amount of work needs.

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.

  • Ability to obtain access to military and government installations and private shipyards worldwide.

  • Ability to travel 30%.

  • Other duties as directed.

 

Required Background and Education:

  • High diploma/equivalent/Apprenticeship Diploma/additional vocational courses or technical school graduate; and/or military and/or civilian experience with marine mechanical systems in a repair department or shipyard.

  • Qualified Rigger- must possess a recognized degree, certificate, or professional standing, or otherwise have extensive (and verifiable) knowledge, training, and experience. They must demonstrate their ability to find and execute solutions to problems involving rigging loads.

  • Qualified Signalperson; knows and understands the type of signals used at the worksite, is competent in using these signals and understands the operations and limitations of the equipment, including the crane dynamics involved in swinging, raising, lowering and stopping loads and in boom deflection from hoisting loads. Knows and understands the relevant signal person qualification requirements specified in OSHA Requirements as specified in subpart CC (1926.1419-1926.1422; 1926.1428). Passes an oral or written test and a practical test.

  • Valid certificate from an accredited crane operator testing organization

  • Minimum 5+ years rigging and crane operator experience

  • DOT Physical and Valid Divers License required

  • Crane rigging, de-rigging and assembly is a plus

ADA Notification:

  • Involves heavy lifting up to 50 pounds, frequent stooping, bending, crawling, reaching and possible working assignments in overhead structures, confined spaces or beneath machinery either indoors or outdoors in noisy conditions.
