Responsibilities

Basic Purpose
Manages activities related to power trading and executes the business unit’s energy supply plans consistent with company guidelines for risk management. Develops and executes power trading strategies including real-time, day-ahead, and term trading, bidding generation into organized markets, and oversees requirements related to greenhouse gas. Represents the Company in public forums and in regulatory proceedings to support justification for resource optimization activities. Ensures activities align with applicable company policies and regulations, NERC standards and FERC compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees all activities related to the development and execution of approved energy supply plans consistent with company guidelines for risk management. 50%
  • Directs and engages in the buying and selling of power products at negotiated rates and terms.
  • Oversees the buying and selling of emission related products to manage greenhouse gas obligations related to trading activities.
  • Monitors competitive conditions and variables that influence pricing, availability and reliability of energy supply resources.
  • Coordinates power trading activity closely with the gas trading desk to promote strategic harmonization.
  • Oversees request for proposal efforts related to the buying and selling of physical energy supply
  • Supports organized market initiatives.
Oversees the Company’s participation and performance in the Western Energy Imbalance Market. 20%
  • Focuses on continuous improvement of trading, bidding, economic dispatch, portfolio optimization and performance metrics related to the Energy Imbalance Market.
  • Works closely with the Trading Operations team to review market performance
Represents the company in regulatory proceedings related to resource optimization activities. 20%
  • Prepares testimony and narrative related to IRP and ESP filings and participates in required hearings.
  • Responds to all assigned data requests.
  • Participates as a regulatory witness on behalf of the Company as needed
Works closely with other departments to continually evaluate and update forecasted power and gas capacity needs based on loads and available resources. 10%
Monitors and enforces all compliance requirements for area of responsibility.
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school and 8 years of related work experience.
Candidates that do not possess a bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of 12 years of related work experience.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:
  • Gas and electric industry with emphasis on power system economics, economic dispatch, and energy trading
  • Resource optimization, energy transactions, power plant performance and fuels requirements.
Demonstrated skills such as:
  • Analytical, interpersonal and communication
  • Time management, decision making, presentation, human relations, and organization
  • Resolve problems in a timely manner.
Equipment and Applications
PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database programs
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Works as needed to manage 24x7 operations which includes nights, weekends and holidays. General office environment. No special physical demands required.

Compensation

Annual Salary: $157,800 (Min) to $185,700 (Mid); Up to 25% Short Term Incentive Plan target opportunity at the discretion of the company. This is a non-represented position.
