Responsibilities

The sales team identifies many customer needs. The Director, Product Line (PLD) is tasked with synthesizing this information from many sources to identifying the greatest customer needs that can most profitably be addressed by JBT MAREL. The PDL achieves improvement in customer satisfaction, market share, product line revenue, and margin in his or her region and product line while maintaining a global perspective of the JBT MAREL portfolio. 

 

The PLD communicates with all areas of the company, and works with an engineering counterpart to define product release requirements. The PLD works with the marketing communications team to define the product launch plan and go-to-market strategy, helping them understand the product positioning, key benefits and target customer. The PLD serves as the internal and external champion for a product offering working closely with the sales channel and key customers.Gather information on market trends & drivers, competitor’s activities, customer requirements and equipment buying behavior. Work with suppliers and/or partners to develop new or existing product line solutions as specific markets require. 

 

RELATIONSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Lead a team of direct / indirect reports, including product line managers and product specialists.

  • Key external contacts: Customers, Supplier Partnerships, Industry Analysts, Industry Associations. 

  • Key internal contacts: Sales Managers, Account Managers, Sales Support Team, Marketing Team, Project Management, Engineering, R&D, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Accounting/Finance team, General Management, Corporate staff (Division manager, Business development & Finance functions).

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITY: 

Market analysis, research, reporting, and decision making: 

  • Gather voice of the customer information via in-person interviews, analytical surveys, or other means. 

  • Provide competitive updates and monitor lost orders. 

  • Provide clear recommendations to continue, halt, or abandon a project or a product line based upon most current information. 

  • Continuously monitor customer performance and market needs. Communicate main themes and implications to JBT MAREL stakeholders.  

  • Frequently reviews cost and product positioning, global price list from product manager. 

  • Achieve margin $ and % targets and grow market share through full accountability for quote pricing. 

  • Collaborates with Service (Customer Care) to adjust aftermarket positions on parts pricing or performance that harms new equipment sales prospects 

Sales Team Support 

  • Work with applications engineering and project management to develop and maintain "Product Line Sales tools" including "Total Cost of Ownership" and/or "Life-Cycle" calculators; and work with Sales Team to implement tools into the Sales Process. 

  • Support the Sales Team by developing product line sales presentations, literature and data to help in the Sales Process. Update and improve these sales tools as necessary 

Product Line Direction and Performance 

  • Develop & maintain Product Line Roadmap structure in conjunction with applications engineering, account managers, production engineering, R&D, and service. 

  • Manage the entire product line life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities 

  • Develop product line competitive and marketing strategies 

  • Assess new product development and product care opportunities through justification tools 

  • Plan, budget and drive the Product Development projects through necessary departments (engineering, R&D, marketing, etc.). Assess success of projects after completion and modify as needed 

  • Work closely with R&D to collaborate and streamline development efforts 

Business Development 

  • Analyze financially different strategies for key accounts, product lines, etc. 

  • Recommend target acquisitions/partnerships as they relate to product line development 

  • Conduct market segment studies to help identify sales opportunities 

  • Identify new market segments to enter and determine attractiveness of those segments, market size and create a business case 

  • Push sales to help generate greater opportunities for the product line. 

Task Force Participation 

  • Participate as an active team member in key business initiatives 

Increase Expertise and Insight 

  • Expand overall working knowledge of technical aspects and features of the company's equipment offerings. 

  • 10+ years of direct industry experience in application engineering, design engineering, marketing, or department management role. A history of direct customer contact is required. Food industry experience is preferred. 

  • BS degree in Marketing, Engineering or related field required;  

  • This position requires travel to customer sites in North America and may include International travel. 

  • Knowledgeable in technology.  

  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills (verbal, written and listening). A strong knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint is crucial. Good judgment. Demonstrated work ethic. Team player. High sense of urgency and standards of excellence.
