Description:
Texas Biomed is searching for an Animal Caretaker I in the Vivarium Group. The successful candidate will provide for the care of laboratory animals, their housing and associated facilities, with primary emphasis placed on maximizing animal welfare and minimizing experimental variables relating to animal health and environmental sanitation.
The Role
• Provide daily care for all rodents and animals, e.g. watering, feeding, daily cleaning and sanitizing of cages.
• Maintains required records concerning sanitation of animal(s) being cared for.
• Transports animal cages, bulk feed, and related equipment and bedding material within the Institute using forklift, dolly, trailer and/or motor vehicle or hand carry.
• Observes, documents and reports animal behavior and interactions, both normal and abnormal, while maintaining required records concerning health and location of animals being cared for.
• Administers measured amounts of laboratory diet to a variety of animal species, according to instructions.
Our Ideal Candidate
• High school diploma or GED required
• Animal experience and/or bachelors degree in related field preferred.
• AALAS Certification at the ALAT level preferred
• Must have valid driver's license and meet Texas Biomed driving standards.
• Available to work Monday-Friday, 7am to 4pm with rotating schedule covering some weekends and holidays

Other: Work involves strenuous physical activities of various kinds with routine exposure to animals, hazardous substances, potentially dangerous situations, and unpleasant work conditions (e.g. exposure to unpleasant odors or adverse weather conditions).
