Job Description Summary
The Director of the Health Center provides visionary leadership that aligns with the University’s mission and enhances the Division of Student Affairs. Focusing on confidential, evidence-based, and trauma-informed care, the Director ensures that every student has access to high-quality, timely medical services—fostering both personal and academic success. In addition, the Director acts as a key consultant on critical clinical and administrative issues, supporting both individual student health and the broader public health of the Bentley community.
Essential Duties:
Direct Patient Care and Consultation:
Provide clinical care minimally 1.5 days per week, ensuring adherence to evidence-based, trauma-informed practices.
Serve as a key medical consultant, advising on complex student or community public health situations.
Clinical Governance and Staff Support:
Oversee clinical staff by ensuring strict adherence to evidence-based clinical guidelines.
Implement risk management practices to safeguard student health and wellbeing.
Health Center Management:
Provide overall leadership for the Health Center, ensuring operations align with the mission and goals of the University and the Division of Student Affairs.
Develop, manage, and monitor the Health Center’s budget in a fiscally responsible manner.
Recruit, hire, and supervise both clinical and administrative staff aligning with Human Resources, diversity, and EEO guidelines.
Develop, execute and administer service contracts with service providers used by the Health Center
Cross Departmental Collaboration:
Work with campus partners (e.g., CARE, Student Onboarding and Orientation, Residence Life, Spiritual Life, Athletics, and Student Equity and Inclusion) to develop and execute shared goals and objectives that foster student success and wellbeing.
Maintain effective internal communication ensuring linkage between quality management and overall operational practices.
Participate in the review of our student health insurance plan, with key stakeholders, and make recommendations that are in the best interest of our students
Partner with the areas under the wellbeing umbrella (Counseling, Communications and Programming, and BentleyPlus) to provide a holistic wellbeing approach
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure the Health Center meets all local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, Massachusetts School Immunization Requirements, and adherence to FERPA guidelines.
Maintain clinical licensure, certifications (DEA, CPR, licensing, etc.), and adhere to state nursing and prescription regulations.
Quality Improvement and Accreditation:
Oversee the comprehensive accreditation process, serving as the Chair of the Governing Body for accreditation and as Co-Chair for the Quality Improvement and Risk Committee.
Implement and maintain quality improvement and risk management systems to ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, and compliant care.
Review and update policies and procedures annually to continuously elevate health services.
Utilize assessment tools to continually evaluate student experience and services provided
Other Duties:
Attend key internal meetings (Meetings could include, Student Affairs Directors’ meetings, Wellbeing Team meeting, CARE team sessions) and other relevant meetings as needed.
Collaborate with diverse departments and student organizations to design and implement health and wellbeing initiatives for students.
Provide regular updates about the Health Center’s care services and programming to the leadership of the Division of Student Affairs.
Participate in significant campus events, including orientation sessions, residence life training, and other presentations or programs.
Serve as a contact person and maintain strong working relationships with key off campus medical and psychological providers
Maintain active memberships in professional organizations and attend relevant conferences and workshops centered on college student health and student life.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a clinical health field or related area (Doctorate is a plus).
Minimum of 8 years of clinical experience and at least 3 years of progressive team and financial management experience
Massachusetts Registered Nurse License with Massachusetts Approval to Practice in the Expanded Role for Nurse Practitioners; National Board Certification as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner (or ability to obtain licensure)
Proficiency with electronic medical records, Microsoft Office Suite, and computerized scheduling/immunization tracking
Work Environment:
Prolonged periods of sitting, with intermittent walking and standing in an office setting.
Regular use of computers, printers, scanners, and other standard office equipment.
Occasional need to respond rapidly in emergencies, such as running to assist a student or client.
Routine use of clinical tools such as microscopes, vaginal speculums, stethoscopes, forceps, and tweezers.
Regular handling of bandages, dressings, otoscopes, splints, crutches, ophthalmoscopes, vacutainer tubes, needles, syringes, and medication vials.
Familiarity with these tools is required to support both clinical functions and evaluations.
Availability beyond standard business hours for campus events and meetings, including evenings and weekends.
Occasional travel to attend student events, off-campus seminars, meetings, and conferences.
Daily exposure to communicable diseases through direct patient contact and handling of biological specimens (e.g., blood, urine, vomitus).
Strict adherence to infection control protocols and the use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.
