Overview

The Nurse Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for nursing services across assigned primary care clinic sites. This role holds 24/7 accountability for the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care, ensuring nursing practice aligns with clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational goals. The Nurse Manager oversees daily operations, including staffing, scheduling, and resource planning, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and professional growth.

 

In partnership with Practice Managers, Medical Directors, and interdisciplinary teams, the Nurse Manager supports integrated care delivery by aligning nursing workflows and promoting evidence-based practice. This role is responsible for supervising nursing staff, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, and ongoing education. The Nurse Manager plays a key role in advancing system-wide priorities such as team-based care, population health, and value-based care. They also contribute to shared governance and represent ambulatory nursing in committees and initiatives that support operational excellence and clinical innovation.

Work Environment:

  • Work Schedule: Flexible work schedule with intermittent remote options. Holds 24/7 accountability for the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care and the efficient operation of assigned services, in alignment with the specific hours and needs of each care area.
  • Work Location: Must live in Oregon, Washington, Portland-Vancouver metroplex, within 100-mile radius to OHSU main campus and clinics.
  • Work Environment:
    • Significant computer work.
    • Rounding in care areas.
    • Some exposure to excessive auditory and visual stimulation.
    • Frequent interruptions, change and fluctuations.
    • Minimal risk of exposure to human tissue/fluids and radiation. 
  • Travel: Based on professional development opportunities including out-of-town conferences.


Responsibilities

  • Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing.
  • Master’s degree in nursing or healthcare-related field, or in process.
  • Unencumbered Oregon RN License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • AONL Nurse Leader Core Competencies
  • Five years of experience as a registered nurse in a related clinical area of practice or focus.
  • Two years of recent leadership experience in nursing or related care area.


Qualifications



  • 2 years of primary care clinical nurse experience
  • Nursing professional certification
