Post Doctoral Associate - Tevis Jacobs Laboratory
Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (25002994)
There is an opening for a postdoctoral researcher in the research group of Prof. Tevis Jacobs in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Pittsburgh.
The research will investigate the fundamental mechanisms governing the strength and stability of industry-relevant nanoparticles. Mechanical testing of nanoparticles will be performed in a transmission electron microscope (TEM) using a cutting-edge in situ nanomanipulator apparatus. The work will also involve atomic-resolution imaging and analysis of materials, as well as post-processing using numerical routines (e.g., in Matlab) to extract quantitative measurements of material response.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in materials science, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field. Demonstrated expertise with electron microscopy is required; direct experience with in situ TEM methods is preferred. Also desirable, though not required, is experience with mechanical testing as well as the topic of mechanical behavior of materials (theory and application).
The successful candidate should be highly motivated and able to work independently. This position will also include mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students, presentations at international conferences, and the writing of publications for peer-reviewed scientific journals.
