Job Title: Extended School Year (ESY) Classroom Behavioral Specialist/Milieu Counselor
Location: On-Site, Boston
Position Type: Full-Time, Seasonal
Summary of position:
The Baker Center for Children and Families (also known as Judge Baker Children's Center), promotes the best possible mental health of children and families through the integration of research, intervention, training, and policy.
The Manville School, a highly successful and reputable educational program, is seeking an ESY Milieu Counselor for July 7 - August 1, 2025 (onboarding date: 6/24/25). The Extended School Year (ESY) Milieu Counselor ensures that students are assisted using effective behavioral support strategies. The Milieu Counselor utilizes positive behavior interventions, behavior analytic principles, and strong relationships to support students in all daily activities. The Milieu Counselor provides active supervision both within and outside of the classroom, models social interactions between students, and intervenes effectively in periods of behavioral dysregulation. Additionally, the Milieu Counselor collects and analyzes daily behavioral data, completes necessary reports, and collaborates in the implementation of behavior support plans. This self-motivated individual communicates clearly, maintains calm, and has an enthusiastic approach to their work.

Essential duties:
Maintains a safe, respectful, responsible, and inclusive learning environment by supporting students and working proactively to reduce behavioral difficulties.
Implements behavioral response procedures, including self-breaks and time-outs.
Provides crisis intervention and support, as necessary.
Utilizes physical management techniques in compliance with Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) procedures.
Actively works with classroom team to develop appropriate behavioral interventions and implement behavior plans for students.
Collects and analyzes daily behavioral data.
Maintains student attendance and lunch count data on a daily basis.
Monitors and participates in school-based activities with students, modeling positive social interactions and adaptive behaviors.
Qualifications
Education:
A Bachelor's Degree is preferred, though not required.
Experience:
1+ year(s) of related experience working with children/adolescents.
Training:
Training in crisis management and verbal de-escalation techniques preferred.
