The Transit Infrastructure Co-Op position at SORTA/Metro is an excellent learning experience that involves exposure to the Metro Transit Infrastructure Grant Program (MTIF), transit planning, and other innovative mobility-related projects that are underway in the Strategic Planning, Development and Innovation Department (SPDI). This internship will focus on the support of Metro Transit Infrastructure Grant program, ridership data collection, transit service quality assurance and other related service planning tasks.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist in the field project reviews, data collection, and progress reporting for MTIF projects.
  • Field work to gather testimonials, photos, videos, and other data elements of the Transit Infrastructure Projects.
  • Engage MTIF jurisdictions and the public to collect testimonials related to the project improvements and impact to the community.
  • Curate and edit stories as supportive data points to exemplify MTIF project impacts.
  • Create GIS - StoryMap that allows online users to explore the content and access detailed information for specific grant projects.
  • Analyze data and provide supporting information related to MTIF for reporting and presentations.
  • Provide administrative MTIF support which includes reviewing ridership data for grant applications.
  • Review and record MTIF pay applications to insure accurate grant records.
  • Review and record MTIF project performance reports.
  • Assist Metro in the evaluation and utilization of all Metro park and ride locations.
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned.

Education
  • Full-time student pursuing a degree in Geography, Planning, Communications, Urban Affairs, or related field.
Experience
  • Two or more years of undergraduate studies
  • Demonstrated success in academics.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Computer Skills
  • Excellent MS Excel Skills and understanding of database programs
  • Excellent ArcGIS Skills and understanding of software tools to create interactive maps.
Other Skills
  • Self-Starter; ability to take the lead on assignments and work with limited supervision. Resourceful, energetic, goal-oriented.
