Job Title: Windows Engineer

Department: Operations – Services

Reports To: RavenTek Program Manager

Location: Radford, Virginia

Schedule: Monday – Friday with on-call rotation support

Hours: Full-time, 40-hours/week

FLSA Status: Salary, exempt

Clearance: Secret


Position Summary

The Windows Engineer provides advanced support, administration, and engineering for Windows Server and Active Directory services in support of managed cloud-hosted solutions. The role involves developing and maintaining infrastructure as code, managing Active Directory environments, performing troubleshooting, and implementing system hardening following security best practices and government cybersecurity controls. The position supports the company's mission to deliver secure, reliable IT solutions to its customers. The performance of this position is key to RavenTek's performance on the contract, and therefore RavenTek's mission to support the customer.


Requirements:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with engineers to develop and maintain system architecture.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for Windows services deployment and sustainment.
  • Provision Windows resources for hosted applications using automation.
  • Maintain patching services for all Windows hosts.
  • Act as subject matter expert on Windows Administration technologies.
  • Manage Active Directory objects and perform user account and server management tasks.
  • Perform daily administration of Windows-based virtual machines and services.
  • Implement system hardening according to commercial best practices and government cybersecurity requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and conduct root cause analysis for Windows-related issues.
  • Coordinate and execute OS version upgrades on virtual machines.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation including system diagrams, network technologies, software and device configurations, and SOPs.
  • Provide on-call support for after-hours production incidents.
  • Recommend improvements for security, scalability, manageability, and performance across network, storage, and compute layers.
  • Enter actual time worked daily or by 10:00 a.m. the following workday and submit timesheets at the end of each pay period.
  • Submit MSRs as required by manager (weekly, monthly, etc.).
  • Monitor RavenTek email regularly, at least 3 times per week, and respond as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Critical Skills

  • Strong automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across network, storage, server, and applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) and Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM) processes.

Education & Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in IT-related field; equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Senior-level experience with Windows Server and Active Directory administration.
  • Experience in engineering, implementing, and sustaining Active Directory and Group Policy Objects.

Certifications, Licenses

  • Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570.01-M IA Tech Level II certification (required).
  • Windows administrator-related computing environment certification (i.e. MCSA, MCSE, or equivalent) must be obtained within 6 months of hire, per DoD 8570.01-M.

Special Requirements

  • DoD Secret clearance.

Work Environment

Employee will be working indoors in an office environment with other people. Potential moderate temperature fluctuations. Typical indoor and computer related noise level, and typical office, paper, and equipment related dust. Exposure to video display terminals occurs on a regular basis.


Physical Demands

To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, the employee needs to be able to sit at a workstation for extended periods; use hand(s) to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; see to read printed materials and computer screens; mobility to work in a typical office setting. Ability to work on desktop or laptop computer for extended periods of time reading, reviewing/analyzing information, and may be required to provide recommendations, summaries and/or reports in written format. Must be able to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing. Employee must be able to lift and/or move moderate amounts of weight, typically up to 20 pounds. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
