Laboratory Research Technician I
The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Immunology is looking to hire a Full-Time Staff, Laboratory Research Tech 1 Position to produce and purify proteins.
The candidate will primarily be responsible for the production and purification of proteins as it relates to specified research projects in a Cellular and Molecular Cancer Immunology lab. The candidate will properly conduct specific research experiments and maintains efficient laboratory operations. Research area is focused on cancer immunology. Background in biology, molecular biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, protein engineering or chemistry is required while experience in immunology is preferred. Experience / interest working with tumor models is desired. Performs other duties as assigned or directed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the lab.
Protein production/purification and data acquisition are critical duties of this position. This will encompass protein engineering, immunology, molecular and biochemical techniques. Ability to handle numerical evaluations of data and statistical analysis is important.
Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in Immunology, Biology or related field is required. No Professional Years of Experience is required for this position, but we prefer the Candidate to have some laboratory experience in immunology/molecular biology or other related field including chemistry or protein engineering. Knowledge of mathematical and chemical principles. Must be highly organized and efficient with their time. Must maintain professional demeanor and work well with others. Must be able to prioritize daily duties.

Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering.
(1) Must produce and purify proteins as it relates to specified research projects in a Cellular and Molecular Cancer Immunology lab.
(2) Must be able to operate and maintain specialized laboratory equipment.
(3) Must keep detailed, accurate and timely data and logbooks.
(4) Must test purified proteins in standard assays.
(5) Must adherence to strict quality control procedures.
