Summary:  Responsible for supervising the delivery drivers within the Distribution Center. Supervises and trains employees while managing the scheduling of deliveries. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manages, coordinates and directs the transportation network within an assigned area of responsibility. 
  • Schedules drivers and assigns routes to maximize productivity and ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company rules. 
  • Supervises employees who make deliveries to and from specified locations. Ensures drivers comply with their essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Develops and maintains transportation and distribution procedures to maximize delivery efficiency. Selects appropriate delivery methods to minimize delivery costs and maximize customer satisfaction. 
  • Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Assist in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement and customer satisfaction opportunities. 
  • Maintains a primary focus on teamwork, building strong working relationships and supporting an atmosphere of cooperation with coworkers at the Distribution Center, Division and corporate levels.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises 4 to 12 delivery driver employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

 Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid drivers’ license for use of CDL Trucks
  • Must meet SPR’s Driving Standards as provided at time of interview and maintain those standards throughout employment.
  • Must be able to safely drive product to customers on established routes, utilizing route numbers to identify correct customer (and able to operate a manual transmission vehicle.)
  • Must be able to meet and fulfill all regulations and requirements for truck drivers as prescribed by the DOT. 
  • Must be functionally literate and capable of understanding and recognizing product numbers and line codes to insure proper placement and delivery of products for shipment, including identifying sequence of numbers and letters accurately and rapidly.  Includes traffic, and road signage.

 

Education/Experience: 

Bachelors degree or related field or equivalent education and/or experience required in position of at least 4 years.

 

Language Ability: 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.  Ability to write legibly.

 

Math Ability: 

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. 

 

Reasoning Ability: 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving and mechanical parts.

The employee is frequently required to lift and move products up to 100 pounds. Must be able to move heavy product in excess of 1,000 pounds with moving aids designed to move such items including hand trucks, dollies, motorized cart, pallet jacks, etc. The vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
