The Athletics Compliance Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the university’s NCAA compliance program within a Division I Athletics Department of 24 varsity sports. This professional-level position contributes to the effective administration of compliance operations by promoting institutional integrity, supporting regulatory processes, and fostering collaboration with campus and athletics stakeholders. All responsibilities are carried out in accordance with NCAA, conference, and university rules and policies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Compliance Operations
Supports the execution of day-to-day compliance operations by carrying out core responsibilities that ensure NCAA, conference, and institutional compliance. Duties in this area include:
- Supporting sport-specific compliance functions as assigned
- Tracking and documenting recruiting activities including visits, travel, contacts, and evaluations
- Coordinating roster management and onboarding documentation for student-athletes and athletics staff
- Supporting eligibility processes, including academic eligibility, amateurism reviews, and transfer portal tracking
- Reviewing and monitoring playing and practice season documentation
- Assisting with compliance aspects of ticketed sports operations
- Ensuring accurate and timely documentation in alignment with established compliance procedures
Education & Research
Contributes to the development and delivery of compliance education and supports bylaw interpretation through research and resource management. Duties in this area include:
- Preparing education materials to support NCAA rules training for coaches, staff, and student-athletes
- Supporting the facilitation of individual and group compliance education sessions
- Researching NCAA bylaws and preparing documentation to support the interpretation process
Maintaining and updating online compliance resources, including website content and policy documents
Engagement and Collaboration
Serves as a point of contact and liaison to support internal and external relationships that promote student-athlete success and organizational alignment. Duties in this area include:
- Collaborating with campus partners such as Student Services and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
- Responding to routine questions from coaches, staff, and student-athletes and providing guidance based on established procedures
- Assisting with special projects, game-day responsibilities, and events as assigned
- Supporting communication efforts that foster a culture of compliance and integrity
Minimum Qualifications:
Formal Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as sport management, higher education, business, or a similar discipline.
Minimum Work Experience
- 0–2 years of relevant experience, which may include internships, student employment, or volunteer roles in collegiate athletics, compliance, academic services, or student-athlete support
- Experience as a student-athlete or team support staff (e.g., team manager, operations intern) may also be considered
Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and ability to manage sensitive or confidential information
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex rules or policies
- Willingness to learn NCAA compliance processes through hands-on experience
- Ability to use internal guidance and external resources to build knowledge and apply it in day-to-day work
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents
- Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and professionalism in a team-oriented environment
Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)
- Foundational understanding of NCAA rules and regulations, or the ability to learn and apply them through hands-on experience, internal mentorship, and external resources
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret policy documents, with support provided through on-the-job learning and reference materials
Other:
- Occasional evening and weekend work required to support athletic events, team travel, or time-sensitive compliance matters.
Preferred Qualifications:
Formal Education
- Master’s degree or graduate-level coursework in a related field such as sport management, higher education, business, or athletic compliance
- Completion of NCAA training modules (e.g., LSDBi, CAi, or NCAA Eligibility Center)
- Participation in professional development activities through NAAC (National Association for Athletics Compliance) or similar organization
Work Experience
- One or more years of direct experience working in a university athletics compliance office or within a collegiate athletics department in a compliance-related capacity
- Experience supporting areas such as eligibility certification, recruiting documentation, or rules education
Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills)
- Demonstrated ability to apply NCAA rules in a campus-based setting
- Experience collaborating with coaches, student-athletes, and institutional partners on compliance-related matters
- Ability to manage projects or workstreams independently within compliance frameworks
- Experience using platforms such as ARMS, CAi, LSDBi, and TeamWorks
- Familiarity with student information systems such as BANNER or similar platform
Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)
- Working knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and compliance procedures
- Familiarity with commonly used compliance tools and resources such as LSDBi, CAi, and the NCAA Manual
