Position Overview:
The Director of Facilities Management is a senior leadership position responsible for the comprehensive planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance, repair, capital renewal, and demolition of campus facilities and infrastructure at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) including University Park, SIUE School of Medicine in Alton, Wyvetter H. Younge Higher Education Campus (WHYHEC) in East St. Louis, Southwestern Illinois Justice & Workforce Development Campus (SWIC) in Belleville and other SIUE managed properties.
This position oversees all aspects of campus and facility planning; capital project program management; architectural and engineering consultation and contracting; and the design and execution of construction and renovation projects. The Director ensures the delivery of custodial services and the maintenance, renewal, and safe operation of buildings, utilities, roads, sidewalks, and University transportation systems.
Additionally, this role provides strategic direction and leadership for Environmental Health and Safety operations, ensuring compliance with Illinois OSHA, Illinois EPA, and other regulatory agencies. The Director supports a broad array of health and safety programs, including but not limited to asbestos management, biosafety, stormwater management, and chemical, radiological, and laser safety.
The Director is expected to provide effective leadership and supervision of department staff and contractors, ensuring a physical environment that is safe, clean, sustainable, and conducive to the University's mission of education, research, and public service.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Lead the planning, budgeting, and execution of all campus construction, renovation, maintenance, and capital improvement projects.
- Direct campus and facility planning efforts aligned with institutional growth and strategic initiatives.
- Manage architect and engineer contracts, and provide oversight for the design and implementation of construction and renovation projects.
- Ensure effective operation and maintenance of buildings, roads, walkways, grounds, and utility systems, including University Park facilities.
Minimum Acceptable QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree in civil, electrical, mechanical, or industrial engineering or architecture from ABET or NAAB accredited institution.
- 5 years of progressive experience as a senior leader in management of infrastructure ranging up to comparable size and complexity of SIUE with experience in employee safety programs, union labor relations, facility maintenance and repair, utility system operation and maintenance, construction and service contract, capital construction program management sustainability, master and facility planning, production management, financial management, and transportation fleet operation.
- Strong leadership, organizational, problem solving and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:- At least 7 years of progressive relevant experience defined above.
- Masters degree in engineering, facility management planning, architecture or business administration
- Current professional engineering, architecture or planning license
- Experience in a university or similar institutional setting is preferred.
