About the PositionÂ
We are seeking an ITS/Broadband Inspector who will focus on construction inspection and surveying; scheduling and status; roadway design; traffic signal equipment; traffic signalization and geometrics; materials sampling; inspection and testing, etc. Â
This is a long-term, full-time, on-site position. The location is 'rolling', meaning as the project progresses, the site location will change. It is expected to start in the Atlanta, GA area and then move to various locations throughout GA, but we will confirm these details with the finalist prior to the start date.Â
ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Will perform a range of routine and standardized work including, but not limited to, manual and/or electronic calculations, computations, and inspections of construction processes and materials to assure compliance with the construction contract. Â
- Will inspect truck load tickets for roadway aggregate base course; borrow material and asphaltic concrete at project field sites.Â
- Will perform a variety of simple materials sampling, inspection and/or testing.Â
- Will perform contract administrative duties, which may include field measurements of pay item quantities, project close-out, as well as other Department required documentation.Â
- May be required to use several different pieces of equipment such as Slump Cone, Air Meter, Measuring Wheel/Tape, Thermometer, etc. Incumbents will be fully trained in the use of equipment necessary to accomplish their work.Â
- May be required to work at remote sites around construction equipment, drilling rigs, explosives and environmental contamination. Â

Minimum QualificationsÂ
- High School Diploma or GED.Â
- Proficiency with computers (e.g., Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Outlook, internet, etc.)Â
- General knowledge of mathematical functions.Â
- Skill in the use of office equipment such as calculators.Â
- Ability to learn and interpret such things as construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.Â
- Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with Georgia Law.Â
Preferred QualificationsÂ
- Non-engineering/Construction Management Degree; OR High School Diploma or GED and four (4) years of progressive transportation technician experience as an employee or consultant for a State Highway Agency; OR an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.Â
- Experience in the installation of ITS and/or underground fiber, cable installation or similar types of construction.Â
- Thorough or considerable knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.Â
- Considerable knowledge of mathematical functions.Â
- Ability to read, interpret, and explain such things as construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures; ability to take notes and prepare or review reports; good communicative ability; and ability to instruct other employees in proper work methods.Â
- Please Note: For titles containing GDOT certifications or passing scores on Engineering Skills Development Tests, certifications and passing scores must be obtained within six (6) months of beginning work on the GDOT project.Â
- GDOT WECS.Â
- GDOT Field Concrete Technician Certification.Â
- GSWCC Level 1a (Erosion Control).Â
- Passing scores on GDOTs Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests Group 1 (General Provisions, Auxiliary Items, Basic Highway Math, Basic Highway Plan Reading).Â
- Passing scores on GDOTs Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests Group 2 (Pavements, Bases, Subbases, Minor Drainage Structures, Construction Erosion Control).
- Passing scores on GDOTs Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests Group 3 (Earthwork, Bridges, and Incidental Construction items). Â
Compensation DetailsÂ
The salary range listed for this role is $41k-$93k/year ($20-$45/hour) dependent upon the level of the position the finalist is hired into (Inspector Aid, Inspector I, Inspector II, or Senior Inspector). The final salary offered is based on multiple factors and is thoughtfully aligned with each candidates level of experience, breadth of skills, total education achieved, certifications/licenses that have been obtained, etc.Â
