Job Description

With an emphasis on mitigating financial losses attributable to distressed, obsolete and slow-moving inventory, the Inventory Control Manager will aggressively drive the reduction and prevention of excess and obsolete inventory. The individual will orchestrate the identification and mitigation of at-risk unproductive inventory by leading root cause analysis, solutions development, and prevention of unproductive inventory for all material types throughout our supply chain.

The individual must be able to uncover opportunities through data analytics and influence change throughout the organization while seeking to continuously improve Summits inventory management and control strategies across the organization.   This position will execute strategic inventory control measures to ensure the company maintains exceptional customer service while minimizing inventory holding period and maximizing working capital by facilitating the reduction of unproductive inventory.

What you will do:

  • Effectively develop and manage our cross-functional efforts to reduce excess and obsolete inventory. This will include enhancing cross-functional processes, building reporting tools, establishing KPIs, and improving accountability.
  • Contribute to and execute the companys inventory management strategy with the aim of reducing obsolescence costs and maximizing working capital, without inhibiting service and sales performance.
  • Conduct an analysis of actual versus intended inventory utilization by service center and company-wide to assess compliance with and effectiveness of inventory strategies.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain, Operations, Procurement, Finance, Sales and Customer Service on inventory obsolescence-related policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain Team and Service Center Management to analyze current levels of inventory, overstock and dead stock, and number of turns and determine actions necessary to optimize inventory yield in a way that corresponds to market conditions and sales forecasts.
  • Develop and implement innovative methods to dispose of dead or obsolete inventory that maximize recovery and mitigate financial losses, including the development of guidelines for the transfer of inventory between service centers where conditions are more favorable for sale.  Enforce write-off policies of dead or obsolete stock when necessary.
  • Work with all Service Centers to develop Monthly Sales Blowout Deals as well as regular sales events aimed at liquidating unwanted inventory with our customer base.
  • Manage our Summit eBay Account (Item Selection, eBay Posting, Auction Management + Price Setting, Goods Shipping Coordination).
  • Identify and manage partnerships with vendors that can provide services that support the sell of distressed inventory at a value that maximizes the companys profitability.
  • Negotiate and coordinate vendor return deals with Procurement Team.
  • Ensure non-stock items are purchased from approved vendor list whenever possible.
  • Participate in the line review process and contribute to the core inventory definition.
  • Develops broad influence across the organization through the promotion of win-win outcomes within, among and across the management of Summits service centers.


Qualifications

What We're Looking For:

  • Broad-based experience in the electrical industry including progressively more responsible professional experience in supply chain planning, inventory management, analytics, or a related field.
  • Well-Rounded electrical and industrial product knowledge is preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in managing and analyzing large sets of data is required, familiarity with SAP  and advanced excel skills are strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of the needs of manufacturers, customers, branch locations, and the end-user relating to inventory management.
  • Ability to evaluate trends in inventory levels along with financial and business indicators and translate into actionable information to drive results.
  • Ability to analyze current process improvement opportunities, make decisions that support the organizational strategy and the ability to influence at all levels to drive process improvement. 
  • Exhibits a strong drive for results and success; conveys a sense of urgency to achieve outcomes and exceed expectations.
  • Strong business skills and experience.
  • Exceptional communication and time management skills.
  • Must be able to work independently while partnering with internal customers to deliver exceptional service to all other Summit departments and external customers.
  • Must be able to develop and deliver business plans to branch management and executive leadership.
  • Team player, creative thinker with good follow-up skills and attention to detail.

Other things we like:

  • Previous experience in SAP is strongly preferred. 
  • Existing connection/relationship with supplier base is a plus.
  • Solid knowledge of Summits product lines, and suppliers.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
