At Midland States Bank, base salary is one component of our Total Rewards program. Exact compensation is determined by factors such as (but not limited to) education, skills, internal equity, and experience. This position offers additional compensation in the form of short-term incentives (i.e. bonus and/or commission) and may include long-term incentives (i.e. stock awards). Benefits for this role include comprehensive healthcare, well-being benefits, paid family leave as well as generous paid time off. Base Salary Range: $75,000-$100,000
Position Summary
- Assist with the establishment of a predictable, recurring, profitable line of business through focused CRA and Community Development activities.
- Seize opportunities in unexplored markets in Midland States Bank Regions through the expansion of community development, commercial and business banking, mortgage lending and retail banking.
- Proactive approach to prevent CRA Regulatory and Fair Lending problems.
- Assist development and execution of Regional Community Development Plans for assigned regions.
- Ensure company visibility in all aspects of the community.
- Assist Community Development Officer (CDO) with CRA Exam through preparation of assigned region’s Performance Evaluation.
- Source community development loans, small to mid-size business loans, mortgages and retail business.
- Collaborate with management team to accomplish goals and report to senior management.
- Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Perform a variety of tasks.
- A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Primary Accountabilities- CRA & Community Development – (Time Allocation 40%)
- Assist in the development and execution of assigned Regional Community Development Plan. Achieve effective target market penetration while satisfying Community Reinvestment Act compliance regulations and simultaneously creating a viable line of business.
- Conduct community engagement and relationship expansion activities with community organizations, non-profit organizations, developers, builders, realtors, churches, cultural groups, government agencies, unions and major employers.
- Participate in Executive & Advisory Boards of Non-Profit & Community Organizations.
- Conduct community outreach workshops for: financial education, credit education, home ownership education and realtors.
- Community Development Lending Referrals – (Time Allocation 15%)
- Responsible for sourcing community development lending opportunities.
- Responsible for assessing incoming loan applications and outstanding loans.
- Identify the most suitable COI’s, and actively market the lending programs to community members.
- Business Banking & Commercial Lending Referrals – (Time Allocation 30%)
- Responsible for sourcing a variety of commercial loans.
- Interview applicants and analyze applicant financial status and credit to determine feasibility of granting loan.
- Refer loans to commercial loan officers and internal lending programs.
- Mortgage Lending Referrals – (Time Allocation 15%)
- Responsible for sourcing mortgages (Conventional, FHA/VA, and Portfolio).
- Assist in servicing portfolio loans.
- Interview applicants and recommend approval of customer applications for mortgage loans. Analyze applicant financial status and credit to determine feasibility of granting loan.

- Establish new relationships that provide lending opportunities.
- Investments
- Assist in management of current relationships where needed and identify opportunities to expand on them.
- Establish long term relationships that provide consistent investment opportunities with exceptional ROI.
- Identify and establish opportunities that have identifiable ROI.
- Service
- Conduct monthly financial education workshops.
- Conduct bi-monthly homeownership workshops.
- Conduct quarterly realtor workshops in collaboration with Mortgage Division.
- Community Engagement
- Assess and manage current relationships for the potential to deepen and expand them.
- Establish and maintain relationships with community organizations, non-profit organizations, government agencies.
- Business Banking/Commercial Lending
- Establish and maintain relationships with small businesses, M/W/DBE’s.
- Cross-sell business banking products to achieve multi-product and multi-level penetration.
- Mortgage Originations
- Establish referral partner relationships with developers, builders, realtors, community organizations, etc.
- Assist with purchase originations.
- The role requires occasional travel for training and team meetings, and willingness to travel periodically, to locations within market as needed.
- May require work in a Midland office to ensure collaboration and support of internal and external customers.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
- Other duties as assigned.
Position QualificationsEducation/Experience:- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- 3-6 years of experience in CRA or mortgage sales.
- Community development or non for profit background a plus.
- Strong relationship management and business development sales skills.
- Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Bi-lingual a plus.
