Function of Position:

The ASAP Advising Specialist will provide individualized academic and personal support to a cohort of students enrolled in the Advancing Success in Associate Pathways (ASAP) program at Monroe Community College. This program is designed to support students in completing their degrees on time by providing comprehensive academic, financial, and personal support. The advising specialist plays an essential role in guiding students through their academic journey, helping them navigate challenges, and connecting them with resources to ensure timely graduation. This position reports to the ASAP Director and requires working occasional evenings and Saturdays.

*This is a temporary, grant-funded position that may be renewed annually, contingent upon availability of grant funding and performance reviews. This position is eligible for paid time off and benefits.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

Primary Functions:

  • Offer personalized guidance on course selection, academic planning, and progression to ensure students meet their educational goals.
  • Assist students in overcoming personal, financial, and academic obstacles by connecting them with appropriate campus and community resources.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops on topics such as study skills, time management, career exploration, and financial literacy.
  • Track student performance, maintain detailed records, and implement interventions as needed to promote student success.
  • Work closely with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to coordinate support services and advocate for student needs.
  • Participate in the recruitment of new students and assist in orientation sessions to acclimate them to the program.
  • Stay informed about best practices in academic advising and student support through ongoing professional development.

Secondary Functions:

  • Participate in events outside of regular college hours, such as college open houses and admitted student days.
  • Serve on committees and participate in meetings as recommended by the ASAP Director.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in counseling, education, social work, psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience in academic advising, counseling, education, or student services within a higher education setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in using advising and student management software.
  • A strong commitment to supporting a diverse student population and enhancing student success.?

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Community college experience.
  • Experience with Banner and other software programs used by the College (such as Slate, Starfish, and Microsoft Office).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently


Additional Information:

Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has an expected salary of $52,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.
