The Humanities Department seeks to appoint two Lecturers in Composition and Rhetoric. The course load will include undergraduate Composition and Rhetoric courses (Freshman English 101, Technical Business Writing, Writing for Engineers) as well as General Education Humanities classes, and perhaps other undergraduate and graduate courses suitable to the candidate's experience and background Course expectations include teaching undergraduate and graduate writing.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Teach undergraduate and potentially graduate courses in Composition and Rhetoric (Freshman English 101, Business Technical Writing, Writing for Engineers, Creative Writing, Digital Writing, etc.) and other Humanities disciplines.
  • Maintain course documents on the college's learning management system (Brightspace, D2L) for in-person, online, and blended courses.
  • Advise and mentor students; maintain a dedicated commitment to teaching students and furthering their education as foremost priority
  • Play an active, collegial role in the department and in the growth of the Humanities programs and the college


Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • MA in Composition and Rhetoric, or a closely related field
  • A history of successful college teaching experience
  • Ability to teach in face to face and online course modalities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Composition and Rhetoric or a closely related field
  • Expertise in Technical Business Writing and/or Writing for Engineers
  • Experience in course development and assessment


Additional Information:

Classification/Salary Range: The Lecturer is a UUP non-tenure academic year appointment. The anticipated salary range is $55,000 - $65,000. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation includes a full benefits package in accordance with UUP contract. Special Notes: This is a full-time 10 months appointment that is subject to budget approval. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Review of application to commence immediately.
