Job Description/Responsibilities

The English Lecturer will work with the director of the IEP to implement and teach effective and engaging program curricula to incoming international English language learners who have not yet met SIUE's proficiency requirements for direct entry into their degree programs. The program will offer two levels of English learning to accommodate for learners' varying English skills, which will prepare them for success in academic coursework at SIUE. Levels taught fall between the CEFR scale of B1 to a low B2.

Responsibilities will include: between 12-24 hours of on-campus teaching per week, lesson planning and grading as required per each class's curriculum, conducting students' final exams, attendance in meetings with the director as necessary, and assistance in other tasks as necessary to ensure the success of the program. Leading and assisting cultural activities for students is also expected.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in the U.S.
  • Evidence of a strong sense of pedagogical skills and thoughtful strategies
  • Minimum of one year of ESL teaching experience
  • Experience with diverse, multi-cultural people and cultures
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Availability Mondays through Thursdays from 10am-4pm and Fridays from 10am-3pm. (Actual teaching hours could be less, depending on candidates' availability. However, candidates must be available to teach every weekday.)

Salary ranges from $7,560 to $8,560 per semester, based on experience.
