JOB DESCRIPTION:

VAE is looking for a Network Engineer to work on the Army Global Unified Network (AGUN) – Increment 1 (INC1) program. The Army’s Global Enterprise Network Modernization – OCONUS (GENM-O) is a critical mission provider responsible for keeping the Army connected through global network modernization projects. A successful candidate should have proven ability to lead, problem solve and deliver superior results as part of a high performing team in a fast-paced environment. On this program, you will have the opportunity to build advanced network security systems and software utilizing cloud capabilities in support of this complex program. Based in DevOps framework, you will participate in and/or direct the development of major deliverables throughout all aspects of solution development lifecycle including scope and work estimation, architecture and design, coding, unit testing, and operations network services.

  • Conduct site surveys and prepare associated site survey documentation, and design engineering plan based on notional network architecture at the direction of technical program leadership
  • Configure Layer 2 switches, routers and associated systems hardware for deployment and implementation activities
  • Audit routers, switches and end elements connected to LANs
  • Preparation of design drawings using Microsoft Visio
  • Preparation of Bill of Materials, IP Addressing and subnetting, VLAN assignments, implementation plans and instructions, and other procedures to assist network operations personnel
  • Evaluate the administration and configuration of LAN/WAN implementations, and must have the ability to identify and correct issues along with perform updates and upgrades as necessary
  • Ability to analyze routers and switches to identify device misconfigurations and component implementations that could present vulnerabilities and contribute to a false state of security
  • Perform equipment reconfigurations, and initial configurations
  • Responsibility for the completion of assigned tasks within time sensitive deadlines.
  • Support the design, planning and implementation of network systems using the newest technologies and methods
  • Conduct hardware and software analyses for use in designs
  • Analyze survey and discovery data to support the preparation of designs and migration activities
  • Support occasional evening and nighttime service outage windows as well as troubleshooting efforts in the event there is an outage caused by project network changes.
  • Assist with support and operations where necessary.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 3-5 years of relevant networking experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel extensively, 50%+ of the time
  • Active Secret clearance preferred, will be required for program onboarding
  • Strong Cisco/Brocade routing and switching skills, along with the fundamentals of troubleshooting on-site issues
  • Working knowledge with Microsoft Visio
  • Skilled in multi-vendor firewall/VPN configuration and implementations
  • Strong customer relationship skills
  • Strong leadership and project management skills necessary to ensure completion of work
  • Familiarity of common routing and switching protocols
