Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive,open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificateprograms on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland,Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

Theideal candidate will demonstrate a passion promoting success among a diversestudent population. This is a part-time position with no benefits.

Thisposition will provide support and advising to students with disabilities,including conducting intake interviews, reviewing medical documentation,facilitating reasonable accommodations, managing cases, proctoring exams,collaborating with faculty and key partners as necessary, and maintainingrecords and other administrative tasks. One part-timeposition (up to 18 hours per week) at the Wellesley and Framingham campus.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide support and advising to students with disabilities, including reviewing and evaluating diagnostic documentation, conducting intake interviews, and facilitating reasonable accommodations under the new Americans with Disabilities Act Amendment (ADAAA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and applicable federal and state civil rights legislation;
  • Proctor exams with accommodations;
  • Promote self-advocacy and independent learning in the college environment by assisting students in understanding their individual disabilities and exploring various methods of compensating for those disabilities (when necessary);
  • Perform administrative tasks associated with department needs, including but not limited to assisting with grant writing and reporting, collecting statistics, providing budgetary input, maintaining electronic and print records, and organizing office files;
  • Work with the Director and Accessibility Resources team to consult with students, faculty, administrators and other campus personnel regarding issues of disability. With the permission of the student, the specialist might discuss the individual needs of the student with relevant faculty members, administrators, and other College personnel;
  • Refer students to appropriate college services (e.g. Peer Tutoring, Academic support, Counseling, Advisors, Deans, etc.);
  • Participate, as requested by the department, in conducting classes and workshops for the campus community on issues of disability in higher education, awareness, universal design, and learning strategies;
  • Maintain professional knowledge in applicable areas;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Special Education, Education Psychology,Counseling, Deaf Education, or closely related field; with three (3) yearsexperience and/or training that includes college-level learning disabilityservices, learning disability assessment, Americans with Disabilities Act(ADA)/Section 504 compliance, development of policies/procedures, teaching, orcurriculum development; or an equivalent combination of education, training,and experience.

  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • Experience working with in a disability services office and knowledge of best practices in the field of disability services;
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to motivate students;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Comfortable with video conferencing, online learning platforms and general office applications and the ability to learn new software.

Additional Information:

SalaryRange: $35.31 per hour

Classification: MCCC Unit Professional Grade 5
