Engineering Technician I 

The Magnet Systems Department within the APS-Technical Directorate is seeking temporary mechanical technician staffing to fill an Engineering Technician I position in support of the High Luminosity LHC Accelerator Upgrade Project for an estimated period of one (1) year. The technician will be working under the direction of engineers, scientists, and senior technicians doing work of varying degrees of precision (some high precision). This position has a mandatory one (1) month probationary period.


Technical Skill Requirements: 

  • Assembly/disassembly work and experience with hand tools
  • The ability to read drawings, follow written assembly procedures (including data-entry of completed tasks of those procedures)
  • Ability to use a PC with MS Word & Excel 
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required 
  • Grinding, cutting, soldering and lifting of up to 40lbs may be required
  • Must be able to work with epoxies, solvents, glues and other chemicals


Physical Activity and Work Conditions: 

The technician must have the ability to lift 40 pounds, perform repetitive lifting of moderate weight, ability to climb stairs and ladders and stand for up to 4 hours per day and be able to work with epoxies, solvents, glues and other chemicals. The technician must have the ability and willingness to work occasional overtime on short notice in response to operation and emergency requirements.
