Research Technician III
The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Ophthalmology, is seeking a full-time lab technician to support a newly funded research program that aims at restoring vision after traumatic or degenerative blinding conditions damaging the optic nerve.
BS in biology or related fields, with 2 years of relevant experience. Prior experience with murine research and immunohistochemistry is preferred.
Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
The position duties needed is to support small animal surgery, tissue procurement, histology, and immune labeling.
Some physical effort is required, for example, moving and lifting boxes containing laboratory supplies and equipment (e.g. computer monitors). The Lab Technician may also be required to sit and work at a laboratory bench or cryostat to prepare cryosections for extended periods of time.
