Overview

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.

 

Key Responsibilities & Performance Standards Patient Care

  • Perform substance use disorder assessments
  • Tailor a patient-centered treatment plan that may include, but is not limited to, inpatient behavior plans, integration of behavioral health care (in hospital and after discharge), medication for addiction treatment, and referral to outpatient SUD treatment
  • Guide other healthcare providers to prescribe medication for addiction treatment, including but not limited to buprenorphine/ naloxone, methadone, and extended-release naltrexone for treatment opioid use disorder, and an array of medications for alcohol use disorders
  • Document patient care in a clear and appropriately focused manner utilizing EPIC EMR
  • Assess and manage, and coordinate care with ambulatory clinics and community SUD treatment providers
  • Communicate recommendations clearly to other members of the healthcare team
  • Collaborate with all members of the patient's care team

 

Education

  • Participate in Addiction Medicine teaching opportunities, including but not limited to nursing students, physician assistant students, medical students, residents, fellows, and community providers

 

Performance/Systems Improvement

  • Participate in addiction medicine continuous quality improvement efforts: IMPACT serves as a catalyst for systems change within the hospital and across the care continuum. Team members participate in daily clinical huddles, weekly operations meetings, and other addiction medicine and hospital-wide meetings. All team members must be committed to improving the triple aim of better care, better health, and lower costs across the population we serve
  • Collaborate with Addiction Medicine leadership working across local, regional and state efforts to improve SUD care for our community. This may include helping spread hospital-based addictions care across OHSU partner hospitals and other hospitals regionally and/or nationally


Responsibilities

  • Masters Degree
  • Physician Assistant OR current NP license
  • New program graduates considered
  • Ability to manage heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Proficient in use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing, and spreadsheet software


Qualifications



  • 2 years practice experience
  • Prefer experience working with adults with substance use disorders, experience working in the substance use treatment settings and/or community mental health
  • Knowledge of substance use disorder assessments and treatment
  • Deep understanding of the social determinants of health and how they influence patients’ experience and care
  • Experience with patient care in a virtual environment
  • Hospital experience also beneficial
