Position Overview:

The Insurance and Risk Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization’s insurance coverage, managing claims, and leading enterprise-wide risk management efforts. Key areas of responsibility include policy placement and renewals, claims administration, contract review, loss reporting and analysis, and ongoing evaluation of risk management strategies. This role requires close collaboration with internal departments and external partners to identify risks, control costs, and optimize coverage. Success in this position requires strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to work cross-functionally.

Key Responsibilities:

Risk Assessment, Analysis, and Cost Control

  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize risks across the organization.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation policies and protocols.
  • Conduct risk assessments and support continuous monitoring efforts.
  • Assist with loss analysis and budgeting processes.
  • Benchmark insurance costs and coverage against industry standards.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend improved coverage solutions.

Insurance Policy Management

  • Manage procurement and administration of insurance policies, including general liability, auto/truck, property, D&O, and cybersecurity.
  • Lead policy renewals, negotiations, and ensure timely premium payments.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of active policies and issue certificates of insurance as needed.

Claims Management

  • Coordinate the reporting and investigation of claims (e.g., auto/truck, workers’ compensation).
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the organization and insurers/brokers.
  • Track claim statuses, facilitate resolution and payment, and communicate with impacted stakeholders.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with brokers, carriers, consultants, and internal stakeholders.

Reporting, Analysis, and Documentation

  • Support legal review of contracts to ensure appropriate insurance language and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate files related to policies, claims, and premium payments.
  • Collect and verify certificates of insurance from vendors.
  • Advise leadership on policy coverage, exclusions, and emerging risk trends.
  • Educate employees and stakeholders on insurance processes and risk management best practices.

Expected Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in corporate insurance, risk management, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Demonstrated experience with insurance policy placement, renewals, and claims administration.
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance products, including general liability, auto/truck, property, D&O, and cybersecurity.
  • Experience developing and managing enterprise risk management frameworks in complex or multinational environments.
  • Familiarity with insurance and indemnification language in contracts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SharePoint, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with database management and reporting.
  • Strong analytical mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative working style.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field
  • Professional certifications such as ARM (Associate in Risk Management) or CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) preferred.

Travel:

  • Occasional travel may be required, up to 10%, based on business needs.
