JobSummary:

The Entry-Level trainee position is mentored under the close guidanceof Electric Distribution Designers to learn practices and processes related tothe planning, cost estimating, design, construction and constructioncoordination for electric distribution facilities/systems. The entry level Distribution DesignTechnician will participate in activities related to applying established engineeringstandards and practices in the following areas: planning distribution systems;determining cable and equipment sizes in accordance with customer system loads;system design alternatives and the associated costs; project timing andcoordination; procurement of materials and field inspection; troubleshootingand maintenance services. Entry-Level isintended for the first year of employment.

JobDuties and Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to distributionengineering and field operations for the planning extensions, upgrading andmaintenance of the distribution system;

• Prepare cost estimates and work instructionsincluding drawings, material lists and related information necessary to conveydesign and construction intent;

• Meets withexternal customers (builders, developers and governmental agencies) concerningservice requirements and design options;

• Review anycustomer provided site development plans, electrical one-lines and panelschedules to calculate load and transformer requirements and design;

• Perform surveyand layout work in the field;

• Interpretproperty line boundary, topographic surveys, as-built surveys, constructionstaking, ROW staking and collection of geospatial points;

• Research andcollect property deed information at record facilities for the evaluation ofexisting or proposed easements, establish ownership information and definitionof property boundaries;

• Initiate designsfor new construction, conversion or improvement of both overhead andunderground distribution facilities;

• Performdistribution line design calculations for structure loading, guying, geometricangle calculations, pole/flicker calculations, conductor sag interpretation,unitized framing design, construction practices and construction safetyguidelines using industry tools and methods;

• Gather allinformation and interpret the processes for permit acquisition involving City,County, State and Federal applications;

• Inspect workperformed by associated crews to ensure construction meets design requirements,association specifications and NESC/NEC requirements;

• May also entail field inspection dutiesincluding but not limited to patrolling distribution lines to assess currentstate, future needs, or storm restoration support;

• Provide scheduledor requested status updates to supervisors, customers or other relevantparties;

• Must documentactivities in accordance to established documentation and document controlpractices.

Qualifications(Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

• High Scholl Diploma or the equivalent isrequired;

• Associates degree in Electrical Technology orEngineering Technology (or similar discipline) or six months' work experiencethat directly relates to the responsibilities above (helper or internexperience acceptable) required;

• Exposure or experience (class and on the jobexperience may combine) in Graphic Tool design or electronic design softwarerelating to the position or industry (e.g. GDT, Maximo, Pole-Foreman) preferred;

• The ideal candidate will have course work oron the job exposure to areas of distribution design such as AC VoltageGeneration, Impedance and Voltage Drop, Three Phase Power Systems, SystemLayout, Overhead Lines, Underground Distribution Systems, Substations,Distributed Generation, Substation Transformers, Distribution Transformers,Fault Interrupting Devices, Fundamentals of Protection and OvercurrentProtection;

• Must demonstrate the ability to understandcodes and practices related to the position;

• Must demonstrate understanding and applyingbasic mathematics;

• Candidate must have the ability to communicateeffectively and professionally with a diverse audience (customers, fieldworkers and management).

WorkingConditions:

Work is primarily conducted at Project Construction Siteswithin Utility Company service area (may require occasional travel to otherservices areas). This might include electric Substations, Transmission andDistribution lines.

Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisorsand client personnel.

Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by thesafety department for personal protection.

May be at morethan one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes.
