Position Start Date: August 1st; start date is negotiable based on candidates’ availability.
15 hours per week. Hours per week may fluctuate depending on operational demands, to be determined in collaboration with supervisor Nathan Spalding and the COD Student Success office.
This is an hourly paid position.
Job Summary
The College of Design seeks a dynamic student leader to assist our Office of Student Success as we expand and elevate our recruitment and admissions effort. Ideal candidates are graduate students who are passionate about design, design education, and engaging others about College of Design programs and our community.

Working in collaboration with the Recruitment and Admissions Officer, Assistant Dean of Student Success, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Program Directors, and other student services faculty and staff, the Graduate Ambassador for Recruitment & Admissions will:

• Help develop and facilitate recruitment events. Currently, these events include COD Design Roadshows (one per semester), Curiosity Fair & Maker Days, The College of Design Career Fair, and various campus events and building tours to be determined. This work will involve the design and implementation of hands-on activities that engage prospective students and inspire curiosity about COD programs.
• Help develop and facilitate general admissions efforts. This work will include talking with prospective and admitted students and families who visit the college, hosting virtual information sessions with prospective and admitted students, connecting with admitted students in the Spring, and offering a student perspective about design education. Assisting with planning & implementation of Merit Days and Big Blue Nation Orientation Day activities.
• Serve as a mentor to COD Ambassadors.

Some regional and national travel required (access to personal vehicle or ability to drive University rental vehicle required); sitting for long periods of time (sitting at computer workstation); prolonged exposure to screen time; repetitive motion; and occasional standing or walking with objects up to 25lbs.

Occasional evenings and weekends as needed, to be determined with supervisor, Nathan Spalding.

Recruitment Responsibilities will include:

Planning:
• Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs to plan and develop hands-on design activities that offer insight into College programs for prospective students and young people.
• Meet weekly with the Recruitment and Admissions Officer to coordinate recruitment events
• Occasional meetings with Program Directors and other college and university faculty/staff to understand program goals and recruitment strategies.

Teaching:
• Lead groups of prospective students through diverse hands-on activities, allowing them to better understand studio projects and the design disciplines in the college.
• Assist with onboarding new College of Design student ambassadors.
• Mentor and lead undergraduate Ambassadors in recruitment activities.
• Offer the student perspective to prospective families when they ask about college programs; share insight about design as a profession, and the role of design in the world

Leadership:
• Travel to at least one national conference and assist the Recruitment and Admissions Officer with recruitment efforts.
• Other duties, as agreed upon with supervisor.

Data Management:
• Record prospective student contact information for recruitment
. Assist with tracking communication efforts with prospective students
