Description

This supervisory position reports to the Dean of the Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies and has responsibility for management of the Max B. Swisher Skyhaven Airport. This position provides leadership to and serves as the primary representative for all activities and operations of UCM's Skyhaven Airport. The position requires exceptional leadership, communication and organizational skills to create a professional organization delivering the highest level of customer service to UCM's flight school, aircraft maintenance, airport tenants, transient operations, and the flying public.

Examples of Duties

Supervise airport operations. (60%)

  • Interact with federal, state and local officials; hiring/supervising of personnel; provide leadership in the maintenance and implementation of an up-to-date Safety Management System (SMS) for Skyhaven Airport; ensure compliance with all policies, rules, regulations, contracts and laws.
  • Communicate with the Chair of the Department of Aviation on all flight-related activities.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Flight Instructor to support the operational needs of the flight school.
  • Oversee airport-related budgets and budget planning, ensuring sustainability for airport operations, aircraft maintenance, and flight operations.
  • Supervise and support the Director of Aircraft Maintenance, Assistant Airport Manager, and Business and Fiscal Coordinator.
  • Develop and maintain training aircraft fleet replacement strategies.
  • Coordinate with the Chair of the Department of Aviation on accreditation activities and tasks.
Support community relations and economic development of the airport, including exploring and facilitating new business opportunities and retention of tenants. (20%)
  • Engage in community relations and economic development of the airport.
  • Work with UCM Foundation to develop and carry out a systematic development and fundraising plan for Skyhaven Airport.
Oversee the development, maintenance, and communication of airport documents. (10%)
  • Airport Master Plan/Airport Layout Plan, Airport Rules and Regulations, Airport minimum Standards, Airport Operations Manual, Airport Capital Improvement Plan, Construction Safety Plans, Airport Emergency Plan, and Airport Business Plan.
Engage visitors and external customers to ensure customer satisfaction (5%)
Oversee the overall success of the FBO (5%)

Typical Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's in Aviation is required.
  • Master's degree in Aviation related field preferred.
Experience can substitute for education, but education can not substitute for experience.

BA=4years of experience

Experience:
  • At least five years of airport operations experience is required, demonstrating increasing degrees of responsibility with experience in the following areas: budget preparation, long-range planning, airport and aircraft maintenance, property management, supervision, and administration of general operations, public relations, and capital projects.
    • Two (2) years airport operations experience required.
    • Two (2) years of management experience preferred.
    • Aircraft Maintenance experience or background preferred.
