SUMMARY

We are seeking a motivated and safety-conscious Welder Helper Trainee to join our team. This entry-level position is part of a structured 4-week training program designed to develop foundational welding skills and prepare candidates for a successful career in welding. The Welder Helper Trainee will work under the guidance of experienced welders, assisting with welding operations, learning essential techniques, and ensuring a safe and efficient work environment. This role is ideal for individuals eager to learn a skilled trade and grow within the industry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities also include but are not limited to:

  • Assist Welders: Support lead welders by preparing materials, setting up workstations, and handling tools and equipment as directed.
  • Material Preparation: Clean, grind, and prepare metal surfaces for welding, including cutting or shaping materials using basic tools.
  • Tool and Equipment Handling: Safely operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment (e.g., grinders, torches, and clamps) under supervision.
  • Worksite Maintenance: Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards, including removing debris and organizing materials.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as welding helmets, gloves, and safety glasses.
  • Training Participation: Actively participate in a mandatory 4-week training program, including on-the-job training and classroom instruction, to learn basic welding techniques.
  • Quality Support: Assist in inspecting welds and materials to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards, as directed.
  • Inventory and Supplies: Help track and replenish welding supplies, such as electrodes, gases, and other consumables.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with welders, fabricators, and other team members to complete projects efficiently and on schedule.
  • Learning and Development: Demonstrate a willingness to learn, take direction, and apply feedback to improve skills and performance.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • None

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to understand and follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • A willingness to learn and display a dependable work ethic.
  • Knowledge of welding equipment, including proper setup and usage for aluminum GTAW welding.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting documents presented in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. This includes safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, quality manuals, and procedure manuals.
  • Familiarity with the metric system.
  • Capable of standing continuously for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work for 40+ hours per week.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: No prior welding experience required; however, any experience in construction, manufacturing, or metalwork is a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work environment involves exposure to various weather conditions, work in confined spaces or heights, prolonged standing and physical exertion as well as frequent bending, stooping and reaching. Noise levels may be moderate to high and may work in close contact with other team members.
