Overview

The BioLibrary Program Technician's primary responsibility is to organize and coordinate research projects, working with internal investigators and external clients to identify and distribute specimens appropriate to their research.

  • Manage clinical trial samples that the BioLibrary administers: duties include complex data-entry for participants and samples. Promptly providing information to pathologists for clinical assessment, appropriately denote allocation of specimens and regulations for use, manage complex sample research requests on governed samples. Maintain documentation in appropriate databases, provide reporting to clinicians and researchers about clinical trial samples.
  • Coordination of  Biolibrary projects for  researchers: includes  assistance in sample selection; identifying appropriate resources for completion of project; data entry: ensuring project compliance with regulations, patient consent, and Biolibrary SOPs; establishment  of  all   associated  paperwork;  and  acting  as liaison between the Biolibrary and internal and external clients as necessary.
  • Responsible for planning, executing, tracking and reporting on department level projects
  • Assist in development and implementation of efficient workflows in all facets of the Biolibrary, including specimen distribution, equipment maintenance, new laboratory technologies, and working biobanking and laboratory SOPs.

Responsibilities

Education & experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, or a field directly related to the position will substitute for two years of the required experience
  • Three years of experience administering or coordinating parts or subsets of a project or program
  • Note: Preference in hiring may be given in a special area specific to the position opening

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time
  • Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills:  both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Access, Word, and PowerPoint) on Window OS. Ability to accurately type 60wpm
  • Working knowledge of Oracle
  • Must have demonstrated excellent customer service skills both on the phone and in person
  • Must possess energy and drive to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships


Qualifications



  • A bachelor’s degree in Biology
  • 4+ years working in a bio repository strongly preferred
  • 2+ years coordinating specimen distribution projects to researchers
  • Knowledge of human subject's research and IRB requirements for distribution of specimens to researchers
  • Knowledge of EPIC, LabVantage, and Webi systems preferred
