Position Summary:

The Strategic Business Development Manager – Medical Device is responsible for building and converting a high-value pipeline of medical device customers by leveraging Fathom Manufacturing’s industry-leading capabilities. This role is focused on new business acquisition and strategic account expansion, starting with a small portfolio of underpenetrated accounts and building toward full ownership of a mature book of business.

The ideal candidate will be a hunter with a deep understanding of the medical device space and a track record of opening doors, engaging engineering and procurement leaders, and winning complex manufacturing programs. They will work closely with Strategic Account Managers and marketing to develop and deploy case studies, customer references, and vertical-specific value propositions. Over time, the successful candidate will transition into a Strategic Account Manager role, managing a portfolio of large medical device customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business Development in Medical Device: Identify, target, and win new business from medical device OEMs, contract manufacturers, and component suppliers, with a focus on accounts capable of $1M+ annual spend.

  • Account Expansion: Grow existing, underperforming medical device accounts by building stronger relationships, uncovering additional programs, and expanding Fathom’s share of wallet.

  • Self-Driven Prospecting: Independently drive top-of-funnel activity through research, outreach, referrals, and industry networking, supported by a strong marketing engine and centralized sales infrastructure.

  • Solution Positioning: Leverage Fathom’s full suite of manufacturing capabilities—including CNC machining, injection molding, additive manufacturing, composite layups, sheet metal, secondary operations, and assembly—to address complex medical device production needs.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Strategic Account Managers to develop compelling case studies and sales enablement assets; collaborate with internal sales operations, marketing, quoting, and customer support to ensure delivery excellence.

  • Sales Execution: Own the full sales cycle from prospecting to close, supported by Fathom’s centralized quoting and technical teams. Manage activities and pipeline through Salesforce and align with established sales processes.

  • Progression to Account Ownership: Over 18–24 months, grow a self-built portfolio of medical device customers and transition into a Strategic Account Manager role with full commercial ownership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven success in business development or sales within the medical device industry, particularly with manufacturers or component suppliers.

  • Strong understanding of the med device buying process and regulatory awareness (e.g., ISO 13485, FDA considerations).

  • Demonstrated ability to independently prospect, qualify, and close new accounts.

  • Experience collaborating with engineers, buyers, and quality/regulatory professionals.

  • Comfortable selling complex manufacturing services across both prototyping and production phases.

  • High initiative and self-motivation; thrives in an autonomous, target-driven role.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical credibility with engineers and buyers.
