We are looking for an immediate, full-time, permanent position in APAC at Cyberjaya, Malaysia.

Job Purpose:

  • Develop and administer Subject Matter Law plans and policies linked to a specific subject matter to provide counsel, identify and mitigate major legal risks and identify business opportunities/risks to both protect DHL's legal and business interests and support business growth in line with business needs, applicable laws and regulations and to support DHL Group’s Strategic objectives
  • Legal professional responsible for advising the businesses served within the APAC region and its countries on legal matters involving a specific area(s) of technology, telecoms, eCommerce, digitalisation initiatives or others. Responsible for defining and recommending legal strategies and objectives designed to mitigate the organization's legal exposure in area of responsibility. Works with IT Legal Senior Director to establish best in class legal processes and procedures to assure business objectives are met and legal risks are identified and mitigated              

Your tasks:

Legal Advice and Services:

  • Advises business colleagues and stakeholders on legal and related risks associated with DHL's operations in area of responsibility
  • Involved in providing a comprehensive "one stop shop" for subject matter legal expertise to one or more DHL Business Units and ITS/GBS in area of responsibility
  • Review legal analyses and technical reports. Make recommendations to senior management on how to respond to legal issues or proposed changes in applicable laws and regulations
  • Review, negotiate and approve legal contracts, letters of agreement, and other documents covering a wide range of technology, telecoms, e-commerce transactions and digitalisation initiatives to protect the business interests of DHL
  • Advises business on legal trends and developing areas of law
  • Designs and implements legal risk mitigation strategies in own area of responsibility
  • Works with supervisor to manage all aspects of internal and external legal spend in area of responsibility

Customers & Stakeholders

  • Responsible for assuring DHL's legal interests are best represented and protected in customer, vendor and third party contracts; active participant in negotiating such contracts in area of responsibility
  • Responsible for defending the DHL's legal interests in litigation and claims in area of responsibility which may include external legal instruction and spend in region/country with highest level responsibility

Departmental Support and Growth

  • An integral member of the GBS IT Legal Services Global team
  • Attend various team meetings, know-how and training sessions and conferences
  • As part of shared legal services, support the needs of other DHL Business Units and ITS /GBS in the region/country as workload permits to assist the overall Legal Service line
  • Liaise closely and where needed, with any legal counsels in the Legal Services Department and other experts such as Procurement and corporate centre leads
 

Your profile:

Education Level:

  • LLB degree. LLM (if any).
  • Professional law qualifications – admitted as Advocate & Solicitor Malaysia. Admission in another jurisdiction is an advantage.
  • Certification(s) in data protection, Cybersecurity and AI such as EXIN, CIPP/E, CIPP/A, CIPM, AIGP, is preferred.
 

Experience Level:

  • Experience in drafting and negotiating complex technology contracts including technology (e.g. SaaS, hardware, software, outsourcing, etc.), telecom and professional service contracts
  • Subject matter expert in technology laws related to AI, data protection, cybersecurity, and technology contracts, with ability to apply legal knowledge and expertise in business environment
  • Some experience in commercial, litigation and employment laws.
  • Independent, proactive and contributor to the success of organization's business and strategy
  • Ability to manage business expectations and to work to deadlines.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, and fluent Malay and Chinese written and verbal communication skills
  • Min 5-8 years PQE and ideally in-house in technology industry of a global MNC or private practice specializing in technology laws and contracts; some regional experience in Asia-Pacific is preferred
  • Passion, knowledge and use of technology, AI and related tools
