Responsibilities:

The Admissions Counselor is responsible for meeting or exceeding the freshman recruitment goal for an assigned geographical territory. The incumbent will articulate the mission and values of the university to prospective students, families, and guidance counselors by autonomously crafting messages based on the specific audience. The Admissions Counselor represents the University at numerous events such as college fairs, high school visits, alumni receptions, and on-campus events and will meet and exceed the needs of all constituents. The Admissions Counselor will also manage the recruitment territory for a geographic region from initial inquiry through enrollment including, but not limited to, informational sessions, reviewing applications for an admissions decision and scholarship, reviewing financial aid packages, and counseling students on the entire life cycle from application to enrollment to a broad audience of students, parents, and high school counselors with differing tactics.

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university is required. Excellent communication skills, including written, phone, and face to face interactions, are essential. Must have the ability to use Microsoft Office products to maintain accurate prospect database.

Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable by the University carrier, as position requires travel. Candidates are expected to work some nights and weekends as needed.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knows how to use Microsoft Office products to maintain accurate prospect management.

  • Polished presentation/public speaking skills, fine-tuned organization, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to conduct interviews and presentations to prospective students and their families.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written abilities that positively reflect upon Mercer University with diverse populations, which are vital to the success of this position.

  • Ability to meet and exceed set goals.

  • Availability to travel to event locations (sometimes driving long distances requiring overnight stays) during early morning, evening, and weekend hours as needed.

  • Capability to load and transport admissions materials, displays, and other equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Demonstrates strong ethics, motivation, and a commitment to excellence, and is capable of working independently while also contributing effectively as part of a collaborative and cohesive team.
