Position Summary
The Outreach and Engagement Manager leads a team of public-facing ambassadors, and designs and executes initiatives that strengthen Ava's presence, reputation, and impact in the communities we serve. The successful candidate will represent Ava in the community, raising awareness of the agency's mission and the many efficiency and electrification programs we offer. This position is also responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive community engagement strategy, managing and activating selected sponsorships, and engaging with CBOs and other partners.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to evolve and upgrade the way Ava Community Energy approaches stakeholder engagement and education. They will be a creative, efficient, and strategic problem solver with excellent interpersonal, community-building, and organizational skills
Position Details
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Team Management: Lead, mentor and grow the Outreach team to ensure that performance meets agency goals. Manage and schedule day-to-day activities of the team and provide clear direction and ongoing training to the team on how to answer questions and address feedback coming from the community, as well as direction on how to improve engagement at events. This role will manage two full time outreach coordinators, as well as seasonal interns and part-time resources.
- Outreach and Engagement Strategy: Develop and execute a strategic community engagement/education plan that reflects Ava's mission and brand goals, in inclusive of our grants and local development strategies, and responsive to the input of stakeholders including the Ava Board of Directors. Develop strategic metrics that will guide and support evaluation of outreach efforts.
- Event Management: Ensure Ava has a consistent and professional presence at all events. Guide the team in sourcing events that align with agency goals and managing event logistics
- Engagement Analytics / Reporting: Manage the collection of engagement and conversion data from community events. Design and implement a standardized reporting template to track key event performance metrics that are developed as part of the overall strategy. Provide qualitative and quantitative event metrics to stakeholders, including insight into the issues raised in the community so they might be addressed across all available platforms. Use data-driven insights to improve event strategy and engagement impact.
- Vendor Sourcing and Management: Identify, contract with, and train external support resources to augment internal staff as necessary
- Event Branding / Inventory Management: Ensure event materials are on-brand and engaging. Manage inventory of event materials, regularly refreshing and updating materials as needed
- Internal Collaboration: Work closely with the whole marketing team and across the agency to meet shared goals and to stay abreast of information that is relevant to community stakeholders
Minimum Requirements:
- At least 8 years of experience in a community education and/or engagement role
- Experience sourcing and managing contractors and outside agencies
- Prior experience with designing, implementing, and measuring community engagement programs and initiatives
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to track and report on performance metrics and use data to make decisions
- Ability and willingness to travel to San Joaquin Valley to support key events approximately twice per quarter
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and attend outdoor events

- Proficiency in a second language
- Social media content creation experience / comfort with contributing to Ava social channels
Flexible schedule required, including the ability to work occasional evening and weekend events at community locations.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary for this position is $178,774, with a Total Compensation of up to $196,651 annually based on performance.

Location and Working Conditions
This position will be based in Ava headquarters in Oakland, near BART. Ava's team has a hybrid approach inclusive of in-office and remote work. This role is expected to go into the office on Tuesday, Thursday, and the first Wednesday of the month.
