Position Description:
Transportation, Design Engineer for WSB LLC, Burnsville, MN. Design and coordinate roadway, drainage, and utility projects for our public and private clients; Collaborate with other groups/disciplines within the company to deliver top quality projects and unparalleled service to our clients; Design calculations, quantity and cost estimates, and plan preparation; Compile, write, and edit quality technical reports, feasibility reports, letters, memos and specifications for projects; Prepare, read and understand state Department of Transportation construction plans, specifications, and technical documents; Draft proposals, project budgets and schedules, planning activities, and public involvement and other presentation opportunities; Oversee the work of EITs or Technicians; Plan, direct, and coordinate project activities to ensure that projects are delivered within prescribed time frames and budgets; Develop engineering estimates on projects through data collection and analysis; Communicate regularly with the client, project schedule and budget oversight and subconsultant coordination; Reference design standards to incorporate into project development, including ADA modeling for pedestrian ramp compliance; Draft design memos to county and state level clients, including leading review meetings with clients; Develop exhibits and analyze alternatives during predesign to finalize the overall project concept; Develop, update, and review roadway models with Open Roads Designer; Participate in community open houses providing updates on projects to community members, including presenting detailed plan updates and responding to community questions and concerns; Design software packages, including Microstation Open Roads Designer, AutoTurn, Concept Station, ProjectWise, and/or HydroCAD; Create, update, and review 3D models based on proposed geometry, profiles and geometry. Position is based out of WSB’s offices in Burnsville MN, but allows for the option to work from a home office in the Burnsville MN metropolitan area. In office work with flexibility to work from home in a hybrid schedule up to 2 days per week.
Requirements:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering degree, plus 3 years of experience as a Transportation Engineer or related occupation in transportation engineering. Must possess a Minnesota Professional Engineer (PE) license, or be able to obtain Minnesota PE license within 6 months of hire.
Must possess 3 years of experience in the following: Preparing state Department of Transportation construction plans, specifications, and technical documents; Developing engineering estimates on projects through data collection and analysis; Incorporating design standards into project development, including ADA modeling for pedestrian ramp compliance; Drafting design memos to county and state level clients; Developing exhibits and analyzing alternatives during predesign to finalize the overall project concept; Developing, updating, and reviewing roadway models with Open Roads Designer; Participating in community open houses providing updates on projects to community members, including presenting detailed plan updates and responding to community questions and concerns; and Designing software packages, including Microstation Open Roads Designer, AutoTurn, Concept Station, ProjectWise, and/or HydroCAD.
