ULS IT Resident



The University of Pittsburgh University Library System (ULS) requires an IT Resident for systems development projects in the ULS that support the library’s services and programs in open-access publishing, digital archives, digital preservation, open infrastructure, and other library initiatives. This is a 24-month, full-time position in the ULS Communications & Technology Department designed to give new graduates a practical career-building opportunity which benefits both the Resident and the ULS. The Resident will gain directed, hands-on experience building out ULS information systems within a mutually chosen set of specialization tracks.

At various times the incumbent will perform in all areas of systems analysis, system design, needs assessment, software development, interface design and development, and software support for library-related applications.

The incumbent must be a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Computing and Information Systems or an equivalent computational, informatics, or engineering program at the University of Pittsburgh. The incumbent must quickly learn new concepts, manage tasks efficiently while meeting deadlines, and possess excellent communication skills. The incumbent must be a self-motivated, independent, detail oriented, responsible team-player.


Job Summary

Performs basic development, customization, and integration work on application systems. Assists in preparing detailed specifications, recommendations, and testing procedures.


Essential Functions

The incumbent will perform in areas of systems analysis, system design, needs assessment, software development, interface design and development, and software support. The incumbent will be responsible for communication with staff, faculty, students, and other stakeholders both within and external to the university.


Physical Effort

The incumbent will follow established standard operating procedures and may recommend improvements to these procedures. The incumbent may be responsible to evaluate new technologies and platforms and recommend strategies for adoption.
