Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept
The College of Education (COE) is the largest teacher preparation program in Oregon and is fully accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission of Oregon. The COE guides the development of outstanding teachers who are strong in content knowledge, expert in instructional practice, and committed to educational excellence, social justice, and equity.
Position Summary
The Student Success Leader and Advisor is the leader of the BrightPath which is the initiative for student success across the COE. The Student Success Advisor is committed to fostering student achievement in the areas of academic advising support, retention and persistence initiatives, and resource referral. This role is essential in helping students overcome barriers, achieve their educational and career aspirations, and thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The Advisor collaborates with campus resources, faculty, staff, and administrators to create a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes student success and retention.
In accordance with the AAUP collective bargaining agreement this position is open only to current PSU AAUP academic professionals. Article 17 Section 11 refers.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 4 to 6 years of professional experience or Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with students
- Knowledge of student development theory, retention strategies, and academic success models
- Knowledge of the unique needs of transfer and non-traditional students
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations and advocate for inclusive practices
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks
- Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to address student challenges effectively
- , student information systems, or customer relationship management (CRM) tools
- Personal Attributes: Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed
- Proactive mindset with the ability to take initiative and adapt to evolving needs
- Commitment to continuous professional development and staying informed about best practices in student support services
Preferred Qualifications
- Earned MA/MS in related field with two years of related experience
- Experience with student success efforts targeted toward first-generation, adult working students, and/or students of color
- Experience leading and supporting others in the completion of multi-step projects
- Proficiency in advising software, student information systems, or customer relationship management (CRM) tools

Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity.
The starting annual salary for this position will be $63,816 but may be negotiated above this rate dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
An excellent benefits package includes 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon University System schools.
