The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine seeks a Research Instructor to work in our Systems Neuroscience Center in Pittsburgh, PA. Duties include: (i) design and construction of hardware/software systems to control non-human primate (NHP) behavioral neurophysiology experiments; (ii) surgically preparing NHPs for experiments; (iii) collecting neurophysiological data from identified regions of the basal ganglia, thalamus and cortex; (iv) analyzing and interpreting data; (v) preparing manuscripts and other summaries of experimental results; (vi) maintaining knowledge of the current literature relevant to questions being addressed in the lab.

Must have a PhD degree (or foreign equivalent degree) in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Physiological Sciences, or a related field plus three (3) years of experience in a related position.

Experience must include three (3) years working with: (i) macaque monkeys; (ii) Matlab programming; (iii) Hardware/software integration; (iv) CAD, machining, and fine device fabrication; (v) Aseptic surgery in NHPs, NHP handling, and operant training; and (vi) signal processing and statistical analysis of large datasets.

Must also have knowledge of current literature relevant to functions and dysfunctions of basal ganglia-thalamocortical circuits.

Must be able to work weekends and holidays.

Experience can be concurrent.
