Job Description

Position Overview
The Purchaser's role is to maintain effective and efficient procurement and delivery of finish goods, trade goods, raw, pack, and/or MRO materials to the manufacturing facility. The responsibilities of the position also entail coordinating and managing materials while maintaining plant inventory levels.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure uninterrupted and sustainable supply of raw materials to the plant
  • Manage local service contracts and investigate low cost and effective delivery methods for maximum savings
  • Manage ~$100K – 5M in annual raw, pack and MRO spend
  • Follow Corporate Global Procurement Practices and Procedures when making decisions concerning negotiating, sourcing, and contracting for all goods and services purchased for the plant
  • Assist Corporate Supply Chain in sourcing initiatives as requested
  • Manage plant inventory levels for raw material, packaging and MRO materials
  • Develop and implement strategies for direct and indirect materials for plant that allow for continuous operations of manufacturing
  • Act as liaison with Supply Chain Sourcing managers and JM business units by executing the following tasks
  • Lead and support projects with multi-functional teams to qualify new suppliers
  • Identify alternate materials, cost efficient processes and ways to reduce physical inventory
  • Manage physical inventory process on finish goods, trade goods, raw and packing materials.
  • Eliminate obsolete equipment from plant and support initiatives for new product development
  • Responsible for notifying vendors or internal suppliers of overages, shortages, damaged equipment etc., and for performing the necessary actions to ensure delivery time.
  • Responsible for notifying customer service, transportation and SIOP team of any material constraints
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Function as shipping supervisor back up.
  • Ship out packages or letters that need to be sent out and process them with the appropriate system UPS or FED EX , local import export and customs procedures


Requirements (education, skills and abilities)

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2 years of plant buying and sourcing experience with a major company. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Strong inventory management skills (Solid)
  • Strong supplier negotiation skills (Solid)
  • Fundamental knowledge of financial analysis (Basic)
  • Fundamental experience managing supplier relationships (Basic)
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills (Solid)
  • Fundamental knowledge of contract development (Basic)
  • Fundamental knowledge of OSHA regulations (Basic)
  • Fundamental knowledge of ISO (Basic)
  • Fundamental knowledge of SAP (Basic)
  • Strong organizational skills (Solid)
  • Fundamental leadership skills (Basic)
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project and CMMS computer maintenance management systems (Basic)
