As the Club Sports Athletic Trainer (EH25-178), you'll be the superhero behind the scenes, making sure our student-athletes stay in tip-top shape-physically and mentally! You'll provide hands-on care, prevention strategies, injury rehabilitation, and support during practices, games, and tournaments for high-contact sports. Whether you're running out to help with a sprained ankle or designing a cutting-edge injury prevention program, you'll be an essential part of our club sports family.
And hey, no two days are the same! Some days you'll be managing injuries on the field, while other days, you'll be teaching athletes the best ways to stay healthy and avoid injury. Either way, you'll play a key role in keeping our athletes at their best and ensuring they return to play safely and as quickly as possible.
What You Will Do:
- Emergency Response Hero: Provide on-site injury management and emergency care during practices, games, and tournaments. Be ready to act quickly and decisively to ensure the safety of athletes.
- Injury Prevention: Develop and implement injury prevention strategies and educate athletes on best practices for injury avoidance-because prevention is the best cure!
- Rehabilitation Rockstar: Guide injured athletes through the rehabilitation process, ensuring they follow safe and effective treatment protocols for a speedy recovery. You'll also oversee their return-to-play plans, making sure they're back in action only when it's safe to do so.
- Athlete Education: Conduct injury screenings and educate athletes on proper warm-up techniques, conditioning, and recovery strategies to keep them in peak performance shape.
- Support the Team: Be the go-to resource for injury-related questions and advice, offering a helping hand and expert guidance when athletes need it most.
- Safety First: Ensure the overall well-being of athletes by following established safety protocols and guidelines during all athletic events and practices.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications-Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, or a related field (Master's preferred).
-Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer.
-Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the state of Illinois.
-CPR/AED and First Aid certification (current and maintained).
-Experience working with high-contact or collegiate-level athletes preferred.
Availability to work evenings and weekends based on club sports schedules.Supplemental InformationApplication Materials and Information:1. About Extra Help Positions:Extra Help job listings typically close three days after the opening date, unless specified in the closing date. Extra Help employees are appointed to fulfill casual or emergent needs within the university. The amount of time for which services are needed is not usually predictable and payment for work performed is on an hourly basis and based on actual hours worked. Workdays and hours may vary according to departmental requirements. Extra Help employees do not receive SIUE benefits, holiday pay or paid sick or vacation leave.
Extra Help employees are required by State Universities Civil Service System rules to take a 30-calendar-day break after working 900 hours. At the end of the 30 days, you may begin another 900-hour employment cycle in a new position if available. Working Extra Help will in no way affect any other employment opportunities with SIUE, including your position on and Civil Service register. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment.
Illinois Residency Requirement: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, candidates must be a current Illinois resident. Pre- Employment Screening: All external candidates who receive a job offer will be required to undergo pre-employment screening for this position. The screening process will encompass a criminal background check and, where applicable, other background checks such as a drug screen, verification of employment and education or licensure/certification, reference checks, and/or checks with relevant government registries. Please note that all job offers are contingent upon successful completion of the required screening process.
Additional Information: This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status. F-1 and J-1 visa holders must be enrolled full-time and can only apply for temporary part-time roles working 20 hours or less per week during spring and fall semesters, such as student worker positions, assistantships, and civil service extra help roles. SIUE is a state university, and it's important to highlight that benefits from state-sponsored plans may not be accessible to individuals on F1 or J1 visas.
