The University of Pittsburgh Department of Pathology is looking to hire an Assistant Professor (1-5 years of experience)

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and contribute to image analytics, large language models, and tabular data machine learning projects from inception to completion
  • Develop, implement, and optimize machine learning algorithms focused on image data, natural language processing, and tabular data
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis and feature engineering for high-dimensional datasets, including image, text, and tabular data
  • Utilize statistical methods to analyze data and generate actionable insights
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to transfer complex algorithms into deployable software solutions
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff
  • Present findings and updates to internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field, or MD degree witha strong background in data science
  • Strong programming skills in Python
  • Proficiency in one or more data science platforms such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, MONAI, and scikit-learn
  • Experience with large language models; Familiarity with tabular data machine learning studies (preferred)
  • Solid understanding of basic statistical analysis and familiarity with statistical software tools
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals or a portfolio showcasing relevant projects; excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desired Skills

  • Experience in healthcare analytics is a plus
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms like AWS or Azure
  • Expertise in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Matplotlib, or Seaborn
  • Familiarity with data preprocessing techniques like normalization, data augmentation, and encoding
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies such as Agile or Scrum
  • Ability to produce well-documented code and to annotate machine learning models
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a focus on data quality
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical mindset
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams

Salary and Benefits

  • The individual will be a full-time faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience
