Position Summary:

The Systems Analyst is responsible for coordinating the design and/or modification of computer system process activities. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for design, management, implementation, maintenance, and operations of web applications as well as server maintenance, implementation, and integration of 3rd party systems for the Jonesboro campus and additional ASU System sites
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize web applications using modern frameworks and technologies
  • Provide technical support, training, and troubleshooting for web application users
  • Collaborate with designers, developers, and IT staff to deliver functional and aesthetically appealing web solutions
  • Monitor application performance and perform debugging and optimization
  • Ensure security best practices are followed in web application development and maintenance
  • Integrate web applications with APIs, databases, and third-party tools or services
  • Conduct testing and quality assurance to ensure high performance, usability, and accessibility compliance (e.g., WCAG)
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and best practices in web development
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and user guides
  • Other duties as assigned


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Technical Knowledge:
1. Web Technologies & Programming Languages
• Front-end languages including HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript frameworks/libraries (e.g., Vue.js, React, Alpine.js)
• Familiarity with responsive design principles and CSS frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap, Tailwind CSS)
• Back-end development languages including PHP and C#
• Experience with MVC frameworks (e.g., Laravel, CodeIgniter)

2. Web Server and Hosting
• Working knowledge of Linux and Windows server environments, including web server configuration and management (e.g., Nginx, Apache, IIS)
• Basic understanding of DNS concepts and management
• Experience with content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Modern Campus CMS)

3. Database Management
• Knowledge of relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL)
• Ability to write and optimize SQL queries

4. Web Security
• Understanding of common web vulnerabilities (e.g., XSS, CSRF, SQL Injection)
• Knowledge of security protocols, HTTPS, and authentication systems (OAuth, JWT)

5. Version Control & Deployment
• Proficient in Git (e.g., GitHub, GitLab)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions)

6. Testing & Debugging
• Understanding of cross-browser compatibility
• Experience with debugging tools including browser dev tools, error handling, and logging

The position will reside within the Web Team unit of Information & Technology Services.

This position has been identified as a telecommuting position. The duties are performed during standard work hours of 8am-5pm at a predefined and approved work location. Individuals filling this role must have dedicated work space that provides privacy and security related to the work being performed. Additionally, individuals must have secure internet access with appropriate upload/download capabilities to perform the duties associated with the position. Individuals in this position will be required to review and acknowledge the Telecommuting Guidelines and Telecommuting Agreement for A-State

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of an earned bachelor's degree in computer science, computer applications, mathematics, or a related field

Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee
