BHE GT&S has an exciting career opportunity for an Engineer I/Engineer II/Sr Engineer/Sr Engineer II (Mechanical) at our Cove Point facility located in Lusby, MD.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Summary
A Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation, long-term performance, and the reliability of critical plant equipment. Plant equipment includes infrastructure, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, piping systems, and rotating equipment. This role focuses on preventing equipment failures by leveraging condition monitoring, implementing robust asset strategies, and driving defect elimination efforts. Key responsibilities include enhancing the early detection of equipment degradation through improved condition monitoring programs. Success in this role requires building cross-functional alignment to ensure shared understanding, commitment, and support for reliability-focused initiatives. Additionally, the Mechanical Engineer serves as a champion for reliability best practices and actively mentors others to build an initiative-taking, reliability-centered culture across the organization. Leads functional teams in the planning, design, procurement, and construction of pipeline and/or compression projects for the BHE GT&S pipeline system. Provides technical oversight in performing all phases of projects. Assists with internal training for engineers and technicians. Works closely with managers and principal engineers on higher-level projects, and in recommending and implementing changes that benefit the company. Designs and provides cost estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, materials procurement, construction contract administration, cost analyses, inspections, and maintenance. Conducts engineering studies and investigations and prepares oral and written reports. Provides engineering assistance to other departments. Keeps informed of industry issues and technical trends that can benefit the BHE GT&S business.
Provide technical support for the operation and maintenance of fixed mechanical equipment, including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, and piping systems. Condensate and LNG Loading arms, valves, filters, flares, restriction orifices, fire system equipment (e.g., monitors, deluge etc.), and any related.
Provide support for plant Systems and Processes: Hose management, flange management, pressure equipment repair and fitness for service, welding and NDT, piping stress analysis, piping vibration management (including AIV/FIV)
Provide mechanical engineering support for both day-to-day plant operations and long-term reliability and availability targets, including frontline response for mechanical issues and failures.
Drive continuous improvement in mechanical equipment (safety, cost, availability) through:
- Maintenance strategy optimization
- Root Cause Failure Analysis
- Bad actor analysis
- Management of Change
- Debottlenecking and efficiency optimization
Define and implement QA/QC programs for mechanical equipment maintenance.
Participate in the review and approval of engineering designs, modifications, and repair plans.
Provide integral interaction and support for other intercompany teams, such as Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Process
Develop and optimize asset strategies based on asset criticality.
Drives implementation of the site reliability strategy.
Develops, implements, maintains, and continuously improves condition monitoring programs and standards.
Identifies and addresses spare parts gaps for critical equipment.
Initiates, defines, justifies, and supports the execution of strategic initiatives and capital projects to improve equipment reliability.
****Knowledge and experience in rotating equipment is a plus but not a requirement.QUALIFICATIONS Engineer IEngineering degree from an accredited college/university. Internship preferred
Basic knowledge of engineering concepts, fundamentals and theory.
Engineer II1-3 Years of Professional Engineering Experience
Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals.
- Requires developmental experience in a professional engineering position.
- Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality, and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives.
- Understands and can apply knowledge of configuration management.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs,
- Planning, organizational, and project management skills.
Sr Engineer 5+ Years of Professional Engineering Experience (PE License preferred)
Full knowledge of engineering theories and principles.
- Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.
- Strong leadership skills, with proven ability to serve as team project lead.
- Provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
- Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills
Sr Engineer II8 Years of Professional Engineering Experience (PE License required) 10 Years of Professional Engineering Experience for candidate not possessing a PE License
Must have significant engineering knowledge of natural gas industry related to the design and installation of pipelines, compressor stations, and process equipment.

Bachelors in engineering required, from an accredited college or university.
