Overview

Sev1Tech is seeking a Cyber Security Technical Writer to support a recently awarded contract focused on achieving and sustaining Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 2 compliance in a complex, hybrid IT environment. This role is responsible for drafting, maintaining, and continuously improving the full suite of cybersecurity documentation required for audit readiness, including system security plans, policies, procedures, and assessment evidence.

 

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, understands cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST 800-171 and 800-172, and excels at translating complex technical processes into clear, actionable documentation. You will work closely with engineers, administrators, and program leadership to ensure alignment between technical implementation and compliance artifacts.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain key cybersecurity documentation including:

    • System Security Plans (SSPs)

    • Incident Response Plans (IRPs)

    • Access Control Policies (ACPs)

    • Risk Management Plans (RMPs)

    • Shared Responsibility Matrices (SRMs)

    • Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms)

  • Collaborate with technical teams to capture and document system configurations, control implementations, and compliance evidence

  • Draft and update policies and procedures that align with CMMC Level 2, NIST 800-171/172, and DFARS requirements

  • Support preparation of monthly compliance reports for the Change Control Board (CCB)

  • Maintain an organized evidence library in support of self-assessments and third-party (C3PAO) assessments

  • Validate and update documentation as technologies evolve and remediation efforts are implemented

  • Contribute to mock assessments and audit readiness initiatives by ensuring all documentation is complete, accurate, and audit-ready

  • Work within the Vertasynâ„¢ compliance platform to centralize evidence, generate audit-ready packets, and monitor documentation health

  • Coordinate with stakeholders to align documentation with operational realities across on-premises, AWS GovCloud, Azure Gov, and GCC High environments

Salary: $105,000 – $120,000 DOE



Responsibilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Technical Communication, or a related field, or equivalent experience

  • 3+ years of experience in technical writing, preferably in a cybersecurity, compliance, or federal IT context

  • Familiarity with CMMC Level 2, NIST 800-171/172, and related federal cybersecurity frameworks

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity documentation and evidence requirements (e.g., SSP, POA&M, IRP)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams)

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with engineering and compliance teams



Qualifications



  • Experience supporting security assessments or audits in federal or DoD environments

  • Working knowledge of FedRAMP, FISMA, and DFARS

  • Familiarity with compliance tooling and platforms (e.g., eMASS, Archer)

  • Exposure to security technologies such as EDR, SIEM, IAM, and DLP

  • Certifications such as Security+, CISSP, or Certified Technical Writer (CTW) are a plus
