Role Purpose:

The Facility Engineer is responsible for supporting the maintenance and technical operations of all DHL-owned and leased facilities across Egypt. The role focuses on executing routine and preventive maintenance, ensuring the functionality and compliance of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems, and coordinating with vendors under Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMCs) in accordance with DHL’s global standards and local regulatory requirements.

The Facility Engineer plays a hands-on role in maintaining safe, functional, and compliant facilities by following up on maintenance schedules, supporting infrastructure projects, and ensuring accurate technical documentation and reporting. The position works under the guidance of the Human Resources Director and collaborates with internal teams and external service providers to resolve issues and sustain uninterrupted facility operations.

Principle Accountabilities:

Facility Operations Support:

  • Assist in the implementation of facility infrastructure plans in line with business needs and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Country Manager, HR Director, Senior Management Team and other stakeholders to support ongoing facility upgrades and development areas.
  • Maintain accurate tracking of facility-related technical issues and support operational continuity across sites.

Maintenance & Compliance Coordination:

  • Execute routine and preventive maintenance activities across all MEP systems to ensure continuous facility functionality.
  • Follow up with AMC service providers to ensure timely and effective maintenance work as per agreed schedules and SLAs.
  • Monitor and report on technical performance issues, safety system status (e.g., firefighting, fire alarms), and infrastructure reliability.
  • Maintain maintenance records, service checklists, and daily activity logs in accordance with compliance and audit requirements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and report findings to the Human Resources Director, flagging risks or required corrective actions.
  • Support emergency maintenance responses to minimize operational disruption and ensure quick resolution of faults.

Facility Project Execution:

  • Support the execution of in-house facility projects including refurbishments, fit-outs, and infrastructure improvements across DHL sites (e.g., Hubs, Gateways, Service Centers, Service Points, and Offices).
  • Provide technical input on design specifications, materials, and layout in coordination with engineering guidelines.
  • Assist in supervising contractors on-site to ensure compliance with DHL safety and quality standards.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation related to project timelines, site inspections, and contractor deliverables.
  • Liaise with local authorities and contractors for technical approvals and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Qualifications, Experience and Competencies:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Facilities Management, or a related technical field.
  • Professional certification in Facility Management (e.g., IFMA, CFM, or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Training in Health & Safety, Fire Safety, or Environmental Compliance is an advantage.

Experience:

  • +4 years of experience in facilities management, building maintenance, or technical operations within a corporate or logistics environment.
  • Proven track record in managing Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMCs), including vendor supervision and service-level compliance.
  • Experience in overseeing Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems, including HVAC operations and technical inspections.
  • Prior involvement in facility projects such as renovations, fit-outs, or infrastructure upgrades.
  • Exposure to working with regulatory bodies and managing facility compliance with local and international standards.

Key Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of MEP systems, facility maintenance planning, and building operations.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental compliance standards relevant to logistics facilities.
  • Proficient in managing outsourced vendors, performance tracking, and contractor coordination.
  • Skilled in project documentation, reporting, and maintaining technical compliance records.
  • Competency in using facility management systems, Microsoft Office, and AutoCAD (preferred).
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills with internal stakeholders and third-party providers.
  • Analytical and solution-oriented mindset with a focus on operational efficiency and risk mitigation.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
